Zhang Lingyue was born into a farming family whose members had gone generations without awakening Innate Soul Power. His own awakening at age six—Innate Soul Power Level 5 and an axe martial soul—changed his future. A Martial Soul Hall deacon brought him into the organization and sent him to a specialized academy for training. 1

After more than thirty years of effort, Zhang rose to Level 53 and became deputy hall master of the Heding City Martial Soul Hall branch, making him a prominent figure in Heding City. 1

He worried that his only son, Zhang Yang, would not inherit his soul master talent. Those fears appeared realized when Zhang Yang awakened only Level 1 Innate Soul Power, leaving Zhang Lingyue helpless and deeply concerned for his son's future. 1

Zhang Lingyue's view changed after witnessing the destructive power of Zhang Yang's Lord M14. He became convinced that his son could become a powerful soul master and personally began training him. 11 12

He employs tough love in training. While Zhu Ranqing worries about sending Zhang Yang away, Zhang Lingyue insists that a soul master must be prepared for danger that parents cannot always prevent. 12
