Background / History

Giratina was awakened as Lin Chuan's Martial Soul nine years before the events at the Capital of Slaughter. Lin Chuan identifies it as the Pokémon world's God of Distortion, a being whose power regressed after entering the Douluo Continent without its godhead's blessing. Even in this weakened state, Giratina retained inherent moves, autonomous domain maintenance, and the ability to act independently in battle. 1

Before arriving in the Douluo Continent, Giratina had been imprisoned in the Distortion World under Arceus's suppression. Its long isolation is presented as the reason for its boredom, impatience, and incessant commentary after awakening beside Lin Chuan. 1 39

Lin Chuan initially concealed Giratina's autonomous nature from Martial Soul Hall, including his master Ghost, to avoid scrutiny from Bibi Dong. When summoned publicly, it did not speak or overtly display consciousness; its voice was ordinarily heard only within Lin Chuan's mind. 1

During Lin Chuan's hundredth Slaughter Arena victory, Giratina manifested openly to protect him, share Telepathy, and fight alongside him despite the Capital of Slaughter's restrictions on soul skills. It later helped Lin Chuan traverse the Hell Road, restraining the Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat King and battling the Ten Headed Fierce Yang Serpent. 2 4 6

After the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger's defeat, Giratina captured its fleeing soul origin and retained the Evil God Bead for refinement. The bead's energy accelerated the transformation of the Inversion Domain, while its soul origin and evil energy supported Lin Chuan's growth. 11 16 17

When the Asura God attempted to choose Lin Chuan as a successor, Giratina opposed the original inheritance because it would impose restrictions on freedom and future growth. It eroded the inheritance's divine power and absorbed the resulting unrestricted Asura god position. 39

Appearance

Giratina manifests as a towering, winged creature surrounded by purple-black energy and an oppressive, sinister presence. Its appearance can expand or shrink as needed in combat. 2 4

Despite its complaints and bravado, Giratina is attentive to Lin Chuan's safety and development. It warns him of threats, protects him during combat, filters dangerous energy during cultivation, and gives direct—if often blunt—advice when Lin Chuan attempts dangerous breakthroughs. 8 16 21

Its hostility toward restrictive divine authority is deeply personal. Having experienced imprisonment and suppression in the Distortion World, Giratina refuses to accept a god position that would limit its freedom or predetermined potential. 39
