Naruto's eyes were practically narrowed into slits with joy.
Lin Fan couldn't help laughing when he heard that.

"Sasuke, was the lunch I brought you last night not to your taste? I made you something different this morning. Hurry and try it while it's hot!"
Sakura looked at him with hearts in her eyes.
"What a troublesome woman. Get lost."
Sasuke said coldly, then turned his head away with a haughty air.
Sakura had brought him a homemade lunch the previous evening while he was training.
After dusk, when it was dark and no one was around, Sasuke had secretly tried a bite once he finished practicing.
The rice was undercooked, the steak was as hard as a rock, and a few conspicuous pink hairs were stuck to the fried egg.
After just one bite, Sasuke had spent the night doubled over with stomach cramps.
How could he possibly dare eat Sakura's cooking again?
Seeing Sasuke's dismissive expression, Naruto was instantly consumed by jealousy.
He jumped onto a desk, crouched down, and glared at Sasuke.
Then he shouted, "What's so great about that sourpuss? Why does Sakura-chan like you so much that she's always making you different dishes?"
Sasuke was already furious about that disastrous meal and had no idea who to take it out on.
When Naruto got right in his face, Sasuke's anger flared at once.
The two stared into each other's eyes, and sparks seemed to crackle in the air between them.
"What? Naruto, how dare you get so close to Sasuke? Sasuke, hurry up and beat him to a pulp!"
Sakura rolled her eyes, clenching her fists as she shouted angrily.
"Beat him up, Sasuke-kun!"
The Sasuke fans in the class clenched their fists and yelled.
"A fight?"
"Are we finally getting a feast?"
The boy sitting in front of Sasuke turned around excitedly, accidentally bumping Naruto in the back.
Naruto lost his balance and fell straight toward Sasuke.
At the faint, sweet softness of their lips touching, the two of them suddenly froze.
From a distance, Lin Fan watched them, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
Well, would you look at that.
The legendary scene had really happened.
Seeing it live was a lot more exciting than watching the original series on TV as a kid.
Shock.
Stiffness.
Petrification.
The many Sasuke fans stood rooted to the spot like fossils.
"Ugh!"
"Ugh!"
Naruto and Sasuke quickly sprang apart and began vomiting.
Then the Sasuke fans in the class rolled their eyes and surrounded Naruto in a circle.
Sakura clenched her fist, ready to pound Naruto.
"Naruto, it's time for the Truant Five to go take a leak. Let's go."
Lin Fan walked straight through the crowd, slung an arm around Naruto's shoulders, and started to lead him away.
But Sakura and the other Sasuke fans blocked their path, refusing to let them leave.
"We're five guys going to the men's room. Are you all coming to watch?"
Lin Fan said slowly, then fixed Sakura with a glare.
A bone-chilling look.
Sakura immediately grew uneasy.
Couldn't someone who could beat Sasuke easily handle her too?
The Sasuke fans sensibly stepped aside and let the two of them pass.
Shikamaru and the others followed behind Lin Fan, unable to hide their awe of him.
The intimidating presence of the top student was truly terrifying.
When the five returned to the classroom after using the restroom, Iruka was already standing at the lectern.
"We'll begin assigning teams now. Each team will have three or four members and will be led by a jonin instructor who will assign them missions."
"Team 10: Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka, and Choji Akimichi!"
"Just as expected—a tired old combination. There's absolutely no originality in the village's team assignments."
Shikamaru sighed and said helplessly.

Lin Fan was a little surprised that Sakura had been assigned to Team 8.
Wouldn't the change to Team 8's lineup mean Team 7 would change as well?
