Background / History

Sasuke returned to the Uchiha Compound as a child to find its residents slaughtered, including his parents, Fugaku and Mikoto. He saw his older brother Itachi at the scene and came to believe that Itachi had personally annihilated their clan. The shock of the massacre awakened Sasuke’s One-Tomoe Sharingan and set his life’s purpose: restore the Uchiha Clan and kill Itachi. 6 15 36

As an Academy student, Sasuke was the graduating class’s top student and was admired by many of his classmates. His confidence was shaken when Lin Fan—previously regarded as the dead last—defeated him in a combat drill and produced a Fireball Jutsu twice the size of his own. Rather than accept Lin Fan’s offered hand, Sasuke stood by himself and vowed to surpass him. 7 8

Sasuke is intensely proud, competitive, and dismissive toward people he considers weak. He initially calls Lin Fan a “dead last,” rejects Sakura’s food bluntly, and repeatedly reacts to perceived inferiority with anger rather than acceptance. 6 14 75

His drive for revenge dominates his decisions. Even after recognizing Naruto and Lin Fan as powerful rivals, Sasuke sees strength primarily as the means to kill Itachi and uncover the truth of the massacre.
