These Eight Divine Incantations are used in the daily lessons of Daoist priests to cleanse the sins in their hearts, protect their spirits, summon deities for protection, and open scriptures for preaching.

They are the essential incantations that one must learn and master when beginning the study and cultivation of the Dao.

They are, respectively: Incantation of Mouth Purification, Incantation of Body Purification, Incantation of Mind Purification, Incantation of Heaven and Earth Purification, Golden Light Incantation, Mysterious Essence Incantation, Incantation of Land God Pacification, and Incantation of Incense Offering.

Among them, the first four have the effects of clearing the heart, removing karmic obstacles, purifying the body, and dispelling turbidity, as well as upholding righteousness and repelling evil.

The latter two are used for commanding spirits, summoning deities, and protecting the Dharma.

The Mysterious Essence Incantation, also known as the Scripture-Opening Mysterious Essence Incantation, is recited before reading scriptures; it can dispel doubts, resolve confusion, and help one understand the mysteries of the Dao.

Simply put, it helps everyone better understand the profound principles contained within the scriptures.

Finally, the Golden Light Incantation is widely used; it is a marvelous method for cultivation in the Mysterious Gate, and its power is inconceivable.

It has the efficacy of suppressing ghosts, repelling evil, punishing wickedness, and protecting the body. With deep practice over time, one can become impervious to all evil and keep all wickedness at bay.

Daoist incantations are divided into incantations, methods, talismans, and hand seals, requiring the recitation of incantations, the practice of methods, the visualization of talismans, and the forming of hand seals.

However, since they were not members of the Daoist sect, Wenxi did not teach them overly profound mysteries, only passing on the methods of reciting the incantations.

He then transcribed the incantations and handed them over for everyone to memorize.

For a time, everyone gathered around the sheets of paper, passing them around to memorize and occasionally asking the Daoist for clarification on difficult points.

"However, the yin-turbid energy at the old tomb site is too potent; if left unchecked, I fear it will lead to disaster in the future. Since you have learned these divine incantations, you might as well go there to perform a purification.

"Firstly, this will spare the residents of this town a calamity, and secondly, you may gain further insights from the process.
