Background

Ling Qing was raised by his grandfather after his parents died. His grandfather taught him the Five Animal Frolics, hoping Ling Qing would succeed in cultivation where he had not; Ling Qing retained the inherited manual even after his grandfather died and his own practice lapsed. The Druid information panel later recognized the exercise as a general skill. 3 176

After gaining the Druid inheritance, Ling Qing sought formal Daoist instruction. His master accepted him after he spent a year and a half chopping wood, teaching him that the Dao of immortality values life, self-purification, and saving sentient beings. This transformed Ling Qing from someone focused solely on survival into a cultivator who deliberately cultivates virtue alongside longevity. 176

He initially describes himself as someone who lived only to survive and did not naturally concern himself with good or evil; however, the care he received from his grandfather, clan elders, and master gave him a lasting reluctance to abandon others. 176

He prefers methods that suit his temperament rather than pursuing power at any cost. He rejected the incomplete Nine Transformations of the Mysterious Heavens Grand Method because it required continual killing and did not suit his nature, even though it promised a formidable Dao of Slaughter. 773

In battle, Ling Qing is calculating rather than reckless. He feigned weakness to lure the Five-Ghost King into an Earth Sha Array and frequently relies on prepared formations, talismans, and layered contingencies. 192
