Background / History

Bibi Dong raised Hu Liena and her older brother, Xie Yue, personally. Hu Liena grew up under her teacher’s strict training and expectations, learning charm soul skills while carrying the pressure of Martial Soul Hall’s future. Before befriending Ye Lingling, she had spent much of her life in the Pope Palace without friends her own age 2 32 75.

Hu Liena had previously entered the Capital of Slaughter. Although she believed she had digested its malevolent influences, dark residues remained buried in her martial soul’s foundation until the Primordial Spirit Bead removed them 7.

During three months on the front line, she personally killed three Heaven Dou Spirit Douluo, including a level-87 defense-type opponent. She returned to Martial Soul City at peak level 69 with military intelligence concerning the Star Luo coalition and Tang San’s progress on Sea God Island 2.

Her Qingqiu ancestry connects her to an ancient covenant between the Fox Clan and the Celestial Master lineage. Shen Yichen discovers through divination that she is the bloodline’s final heir and invokes that covenant when choosing her as his dao companion 1 3.

Appearance

Hu Liena’s bloodline awakening preserves her face while changing her formerly bewitching presence into one with a distinctly sacred quality 8.

  • Fox ears — Emerge from her hair and visibly twitch or redden when she is startled, embarrassed, or thinking about Shen Yichen 16 25 47.
  • Snow-white tails — Replace the Demon Fox’s original red coloration. Her manifestations show varying counts: nine during the initial evolution, six afterward, five during later cultivation, seven at level 99, and all nine upon godhood 7 8 38 50 75.
  • Fox-like eyes — Display purple-gold light after her awakening and golden light during major breakthroughs 8 38 50.
  • Nine-Tailed Fox Seal — A pale-purple mark between her brows, imposed by the Marriage Contract and bound to her martial soul 4 5.
  • Sword Mark — Appears on the inside of her wrist after the Severing Thought Sword merges into her body 25 47.
  • Clothing — Wears a military uniform on her return from the front, later a light-purple narrow-sleeved dress with a silver-patterned belt, and red bridal attire for her wedding 2 30 80.

Personality

Hu Liena is proud, disciplined, and fiercely protective of her independence. She regards herself as a soldier rather than someone seeking comfort, and publicly rejects the idea that an unknown man or ancient covenant can decide her future. Her initial response to Shen Yichen’s proposal is anger rather than fear 2 4 9.

Her aloof Saintess persona softens around people she trusts. She smiles sincerely at Xie Yue’s care, treasures Bibi Dong’s affection beneath her sternness, and becomes talkative and relaxed with Ye Lingling. Her fox ears and tails often reveal embarrassment that she tries to conceal 2 16 25 32.

She is resolute under threat, refusing to surrender the Fate-Suppressing Cauldron even when wounded and facing death. Nevertheless, she recognizes the limits of her borrowed advantages: rapid cultivation does not automatically provide combat intuition or complete control over new power 20 24 54.

Shen Yichen’s protection gradually changes her hostility into curiosity, gratitude, and affection. She does not want to remain dependent on him; her stated ambition is to stand beside him and confront the God Realm herself rather than hide behind his gifts 9 47 63.

Abilities & Skills

Nine-Tailed Heavenly Fox

  • Evolves from the Demon Fox through the Primordial Spirit Bead’s purification and Qingqiu bloodline awakening 7.
  • Retains charm-based combat techniques after purification; at godhood, its alluring nature is explicitly described as free of evil or taint 32 75.
  • Its awakened bloodline causes fox-type soul beasts throughout the Star Dou Great Forest to prostrate themselves 8 9.
  • In the seven-tailed form, each tail functions like an independent river of soul power 63.

Fox Fire

  • Uses Fox Fire Prairie Fire against the Marriage Contract, but the contract absorbs the attack and throws her back 4.
  • After purification, her flames change from purplish-red to pure white 15.
  • A small flame scorches cultivation-array patterns, while a casual finger flick produces a crater in a stone wall 15.

Combat and Power Control

  • Has frontline experience against higher-ranked Spirit Douluo before receiving the betrothal gifts 2.
  • Initially struggles to adapt her level-69 muscle memory to level-84 strength, allowing Tang San to exploit changes in attack direction 20.
  • Later coordinates the Severing Thought Sword and Heaven-Gathering Bag to cut apart poisoned crossbow bolts, absorb the debris, and replenish herself 69.
  • At level 99, uncontrolled tail movements pulverize stone steps; she acknowledges that she must stabilize and master her power 54.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

Documented Betrothal Gifts

  • First — Primordial Spirit Bead / Pearl — Recognizes Hu Liena alone. Cleanses her bloodline, removes corruption, reshapes her foundation, awakens the Qingqiu inheritance, and drives her rise from level 69 to 84 6 7 8.
  • Second — Fate-Suppressing Cauldron — Merges with her Fox Seal, stabilizes her foundation, nourishes her martial soul, and increases soul-power circulation speed by at least thirty percent. Its principal function suppresses Tang San’s destiny 12 13.
  • Third — Severing Thought Sword — Protects her soul and state of mind, severs inner demons and evil thoughts, and moves with its master’s heart. On first grasping it, Hu Liena feels pain and fear stripped from her soul—not immediate physical healing. She uses it to sever Tang Hao’s right arm and later kill Tang San 22 24 25 74.
  • Fourth — Star River Map — Channels starlight from the Twenty-Eight Mansions, assists comprehension of heaven-and-earth laws, and accelerates fusion between her martial soul and divine position 34 40.
  • Fifth — Tribulation-Avoiding Garment — Bears a Three-Legged Golden Toad pattern. Draws in spiritual energy, supports cultivation, shields her from divine pressure, and ultimately swallows the Divine Punishment lightning aimed at her 38 40 44.
  • Sixth — Fortune-Swallowing Pendant — A jade Pixiu worn at her waist. Works with the Fate-Suppressing Cauldron to siphon Tang San’s fortune into her own destiny, contributing to her level-99 breakthrough 48 49 50.
  • Seventh — Void-Illuminating Mirror — Publicly projects Tang San kneeling before the Asura God and seeking assistance, exposing their dealings 54 71.
  • Eighth — Heaven-Gathering Bag / Sack — Absorbs poisoned weapons and the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus attack, returning nourishing spiritual energy that supports the defenders and Ye Lingling’s healing efforts 67 69 70 71.
  • Ninth — Karma Jade — Reveals past and present lives, exposes Tang San’s otherworldly origin, and can sever karma, resolve karmic obstacles, and unravel entangled fates 71.
  • Tenth — Pure Yang Cup — Purifies dark divine power and supplies continuous divine power. Its True Fire can burn evil, Rakshasa, destruction, and other dark powers; absorbing it enables Hu Liena’s godhood 75.

Other Possessions

  • Purple Gold Marriage Contract — Announces her selection as Shen Yichen’s dao companion and leaves the Fox Seal bound to her martial soul. Attempts using soul power, willpower, medicinal baths, and curse-breaking methods fail to remove the seal 3 4 5 6.
  • Pine Needle Leaf — Brought by Ye Lingling from the old pine outside Shen Yichen’s seclusion chamber. Hu Liena keeps it beside her Sword Mark 32 47.
  • Spirit Tea — Sent from Taixu Temple through Bai Chenxiang to stabilize her rapidly rising cultivation; drinking it eases restlessness after a failed breakthrough attempt 63.
  • Wedding dowry — Bibi Dong prepares ten halls of gold, jewelry, top-grade spirit bones, medicinal pills, Soul Tools, and treasured ceremonial artifacts 78.

Relationships

  • Shen Yichen — Husband and dao companion. His initially imposed proposal provokes her resistance; his tailored protection and assurance that she may keep the gifts even without marrying him help her accept him willingly 4 30 47 79 80.
  • Bibi Dong — Teacher and parental figure who raised her. Advises her to consider marriage without rushing, shields her from Divine Punishment, and prepares an extensive dowry to affirm that she has a home and family behind her 2 16 43 78.
  • Xie Yue — Older brother. Guards her cultivation chamber, brings her food, teases her about Shen Yichen, and promises to seek justice if her husband ever mistreats her. Hu Liena repeatedly fights to protect him 2 8 19 25 78.
  • Ye Lingling — Close friend and Shen Yichen’s attendant. Moves into the neighboring chamber, shares daily life and cultivation with Hu Liena, and introduces her to Taixu Temple through stories. She also attempts to protect Hu Liena during Divine Punishment 32 43.
  • Gu Yuena — Sworn protector for one occasion of peril, under a condition set by Shen Yichen. Watches the Jialing Pass battle without intervening prematurely because Hu Liena is still holding her own 62 69.
  • Tang San — Principal adversary. Attempts to seize her cauldron, blames her for his lost fortune, and attacks Jialing Pass. Hu Liena ultimately kills him with the Severing Thought Sword 19 20 70 74.
  • Bai Chenxiang — Taixu Temple connection who delivers stabilizing Spirit Tea. Hu Liena asks after her recovery and knows of her discipleship under Shen Yichen through Ye Lingling 63.
