Training Philosophy

Shrek places exceptional weight on practical combat ability. Faculty treat the Freshman Assessment as the decisive measure of whether new students deserve to remain enrolled. 39

Its long-standing ethos is encapsulated in founder Flender’s maxim:

Students are selected from talented youth across the continent, but access is constrained by a recommendation-letter requirement from a major city. Mu En recognizes that this system means most entrants come from established families, while many common-born geniuses are redirected to other academies before reaching Shrek. 35 205

History

Shrek Academy’s identity is inseparable from its historic founders and the original Shrek Seven Devils. Its campus preserves this legacy through monuments, including statues of the Seven Devils and Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang. 28 35

For much of its history, the academy maintained a neutral stance while cultivating soul masters from across the continent. Its influence nevertheless grew far beyond ordinary education: graduates entered major military, political, and social positions, and the academy’s intervention in past crises could shape Federation affairs. 80 374

Mu En later identifies structural weaknesses beneath Shrek’s prestige. The academy’s ties to countless families and factions create competing interests among Inner Court members and Sea God Pavilion elders, while its cohesion depends heavily on the strength of each generation’s Pavilion Master. 205

The academy’s relationship with the Federation deteriorates as federal leaders argue that Shrek’s political influence is incompatible with a unified government. Although Shrek claims to remain neutral, its graduates and connections reach throughout the Federation, and the academy had previously pressured the government into replacing sixteen councilors after the deaths of two Shrek Seven Devils. 374

The loss of the Golden Ancient Tree removes the physical and spiritual foundation of Sea God Pavilion. Following the deaths of Yun Ming, Long Yeyue, and Guan Yue, Ma Hongjun directs Shrek Academy’s survivors to abandon open confrontation, relocate secretly to Star Luo Continent, and preserve the academy’s remaining core for a future return. 458 472 487

Huo Yuhao’s First Enrollment

Huo Yuhao enrolls at Shrek Academy and is assigned to Mu Jin’s class. He visits the statues of the original Shrek Seven Devils upon entering the grounds and later resides in the Outer Court dormitories. 28 30

The academy’s competitive culture quickly becomes apparent: students face physical punishments, practical duels, and the looming Freshman Assessment, where fewer than half of a cohort may remain. 35 38 62

Freshman Assessment

The Outer Court Assessment Area hosts Huo Yuhao’s team during the freshman tournament. His group advances through the competition, including a match against Tang San’s team that prompts a high-stakes wager between Mu Jin and Zhou Yi. 64 66 68

Soul Master Tournament

Shrek Academy sends a team led by Zhang Lexuan to Star Luo City for the All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Fighting Tournament. As defending champions, the academy draws intense attention from rival schools and the public. 144 161

Huo Yuhao’s overwhelming debut against Tianling Academy reinforces Shrek’s intimidating tournament reputation. 161

The team’s unusual composition and Huo Yuhao’s visibly exhausted appearance also inspire widespread rumors that Shrek’s female students imprison a handsome youth in a “secret room” as a reward system. Shrek later clarifies that Huo Yuhao’s condition was caused by mental exhaustion while confronting an Evil Soul Master. 144 152

Di Ruiqiu’s unprecedented sixth hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring is accepted as part of Shrek’s tournament strength. Together with Ma Xiaotao, she overwhelms Star Luo Royal Academy in the final. 214

Huo Yuhao’s Return

After a major time skip, Huo Yuhao returns to Shrek City under the identity of Ling Bing and applies to become a teacher rather than a student, citing the restrictions of student status. Cai Yue'er oversees his recruitment assessment. 271 274

During this visit, he encounters Spirit Ice Square and learns that the academy has considered removing the monument to his former identity as Spirit Ice Douluo. 272

Federation Crisis

The Douluo Federation increasingly views Shrek’s influence, special privileges, and independent status as a threat. Chen Xinjie presents the academy with an ultimatum: secede from the Federation and lose its institutional benefits, or merge with Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy under direct federal control. 374 375

Shrek’s position worsens after its Inner Court team suffers a decisive defeat to Monster Academy. 399 404

Yun Ming subsequently reaches godhood and publicly rejects the proposed merger, rallying Shrek City behind the academy. 444 He later demands the end of the merger plan, legal recognition of Shrek City and the academy’s autonomous status, and the return of the Spirit Pagoda to academy control. Chen Xinjie agrees to the first two demands but rejects the third. 458

Loss of the Golden Ancient Tree

While Yun Ming leads Shrek’s response in Ming Capital, Sea God Island is left largely empty. Ah Yin attempts to seize the Golden Ancient Tree’s Life Core, causing the Tree’s life energy to fail and its condition to deteriorate. 446

The Golden Ancient Tree subsequently disappears, dealing a catastrophic blow to Shrek Academy’s foundation and triggering Yun Ming’s violent confrontation with Chen Xinjie above Ming Capital. 458

Collapse and Relocation

Ma Hongjun returns to Shrek’s temporary Sea God Pavilion and declares that his purpose is to preserve the academy’s remaining Core Flame, not to avenge it. He orders its leaders to abandon reckless retaliation, conceal themselves, and rebuild their strength. 472

After Guan Yue kills Long Yeyue in vengeance for Yun Ming and sacrifices himself, Ma Hongjun orders Shrek Academy and its surviving Tang Sect affiliates to relocate secretly to Star Luo Continent. Those who refuse are to be treated as having severed their ties to the academy. 487
