Background

Qiu Fangzheng was originally a poor peddler in Ox-Horn Town and the eldest son of his family. When his father died from illness brought on by overwork, he could only borrow eighty silver dollars toward the Zhou Family's required one-hundred-dollar funeral fee, leaving him unable to bury his father properly. 28

Zhou Yugen of the Zhou Family then demanded Qiu Fangzheng's younger sister, Qiu Fanglan, in exchange for waiving the expense. Qiu Fangzheng refused. That night, bandits beat him, stole his borrowed money, and abducted Fanglan; their parting words convinced him that Zhou Yugen had orchestrated the attack. 28

After being beaten and expelled from the Zhou estate, Qiu Fangzheng received a letter directing him to Fish-Plate Mountain. He was ambushed there, had the tendons in his hands and feet severed, and was thrown beside a mountain stream to be torn apart by wolves. His resentment transformed him into a ghost that remained in Fish-Plate Mountain for decades. 28

Appearance

Qiu Fangzheng's appearance changed dramatically across his ghostly existence, reincarnation, and later life as Emperor Xianwu.

  • As a ghost, he had a skeletal face and jawbone; during reincarnation, that skull-like visage briefly changed into a normal flesh-and-blood face. 28 52
  • At age twelve, he was already tall and broad, with handsome, heroic features and sharp, sword-like eyes. 738
  • As Emperor Xianwu, he appeared middle-aged despite his centuries of rule; his heroic features and grave bearing were reinforced by eyes carrying the depth of countless years. 819
  • As Xian Dynasty's founding ancestor, he wore a black dragon robe and carried a dignified, calm presence. 856

Personality

As a ghost, Qiu Fangzheng was defined by grief, filial duty, and an obsessive need to avenge himself on Zhou Yugen. Even after his own death, his chief concern remained Qiu Fanglan's fate rather than vengeance against the wolves that consumed him. 28

Following reincarnation, he became lively and hot-blooded without abandoning courtesy. He respected his elders and senior brother, but his anger at Dizi's massacre nearly drove him to act rashly before Du Mingfeng restrained him. He later openly defied Dizi and placed absolute faith in Zhang Sanxian's return. 738 739 741

Qiu Fangzheng's adult ambition was political as well as martial: after entering the Cultivation realm, he chose to unify the world and establish peace rather than remain on Sword-Washing Island or explore the stars. As emperor, he continued to prioritize his people and disciples even when confronting threats beyond his world. 757 816 819

Abilities & Skills

Ghost Physiology

Before reincarnation, Qiu Fangzheng was a Dead Soul-level ghost with a Bloodline Divine Ability.

  • Could travel with Li Hai by transforming into a wisp of black smoke. 50
  • Possessed ghost-phasing abilities, though Li Hai noted that such abilities had limits while they travelled through Fish-Plate Mountain. 47
  • His hatred and malice were sufficiently resolved for him to reincarnate, an outcome described as extraordinarily rare for evil ghosts. 52

Battle Soul and Cultivation

Qiu Fangzheng displayed extraordinary martial potential from infancy and progressed into the world's higher cultivation system under Zhang Sanxian.

  • Was recognized as a four-month-old child with exceptional physical prowess and martial potential. 729
  • Reached the initial Sacred Embryo realm by age twelve. 737
  • Entered the Cultivation realm through Zhang Sanxian's Phenomenon Fiction method. 757
  • Cultivated true essence to the three-digit realm during his reign, then to the early seven-digit realm through prolonged starsea warfare. 819 855

True Essence Manipulation

As Emperor Xianwu, Qiu Fangzheng could employ vast true essence on a national scale.

  • Stabilized trembling ground, held mountains from collapse, and sealed enormous fissures after Mystic Capital City's devastation. 823
  • Left a wisp of true essence in General Zhuang Feile's body, allowing him to sense the general's death from afar. 819
  • At the three-digit realm, was stated to be capable of destroying mountains and rivers across tens of thousands of li when fighting at full strength. 819

Military and Imperial Leadership

  • United the Central Plains in only a few days by crushing feudal lords and private-army warlords. 816

  • Defended Xian Star civilization with Du Mingfeng against recurring attacks by starsea powers. 855 856

Relationships

  • Li Hai / Zhang Sanxian — Initially Qiu Fangzheng's benefactor and temporary master, who agreed to avenge him and investigate Qiu Fanglan's fate. After reincarnation, Zhang Sanxian recognized the infant Fangzheng as his sworn brother's rebirth, raised him, and later accepted him as a disciple. 28 52 673 757

  • Zheng Dashan — His brother-in-law; Zheng Dashan's family witnessed Li Hai's first encounter with Qiu Fangzheng. 27

Story Role / Major Arcs

Vengeful Ghost and Ancient Ruins

Qiu Fangzheng met Li Hai in Fish-Plate Mountain and revealed the Zhou Family's role in his death. In exchange for revenge and information about Qiu Fanglan, he offered to guide Li Hai to an ancient sect ruin hidden beneath the mountain. 27 28

He alone knew the winding route through karst caves and underground rivers to the ruins, having explored them repeatedly during his decades as a ghost. He led Li Hai through the buried complex and identified its remaining treasures and historical monument. 48 49 50

Reincarnation and Return

After Li Hai killed Zhou Yugen and resolved the matter of Qiu Fanglan, Qiu Fangzheng heard a mysterious summons telling him that his hatred had vanished and that he could reincarnate. He chose to remain behind and undergo rebirth. 52

Zhang Sanxian later discovered an infant in the destroyed Qiu Family Village and identified him through precognition as Qiu Fangzheng's reincarnation. He buried the village's dead, cared for the child, and took him away from the massacre site. 672 673

Disciple of Sword-Washing Island

Raised under Zhang Sanxian's protection, Qiu Fangzheng became one of Sword-Washing Island's most gifted disciples. By twelve, he had reached the initial Sacred Embryo realm. 737

Emperor Xianwu

After Zhang Sanxian prepared to leave for the stars, Qiu Fangzheng chose to enter the world and bring peace to it. He conquered the fragmented Central Plains, ascended the throne, and founded the Xian Dynasty. 757 816

Five centuries later, Emperor Xianwu remained the living pillar of his empire. When an otherworldly threat destroyed Qiu Prefecture and killed his disciple Zhuang Feile, he ordered Grade A defenses for Mystic Capital City and personally prepared to investigate. 819

Defender of Xian Star

Zhang Kuang later drained Qiu Fangzheng's true essence and attempted to force his submission. Qiu Fangzheng refused humiliation until Zhang Kuang threatened to annihilate the Xian Dynasty's populace, at which point he offered to submit to protect them. 823 824

After Zhang Sanxian's return, Qiu Fangzheng's cultivation was restored and raised to the early six-digit realm. Over the following millennia, he and Du Mingfeng continued defending Xian Star against starsea warlords, reaching the early seven-digit realm. 828 855
