Background / History

Li Hai first encountered Warp-related technology through his Living Spaceship’s curvature warp engine, which used extreme space-time distortion for faster-than-light navigation 331 332. After arriving in the Wasteland, he linked his abnormal Psionic Power growth and blood-red dreams to the Warp, then discovered that the planet or surrounding star region was separated from it by an unusually difficult barrier 350 361.

Warp had previously receded from the Backroom Star region, preventing Warp-dependent starships from crossing the surrounding dark-matter halo quickly. The appearance of Chaos Demons and Warp rifts signaled that the dual-universe intersection containing Backroom Star was collapsing and could no longer remain isolated 382 406.

During the crisis, Warp Fel Energy engulfed Backroom Star, reviving corpses, worsening mutations, and inducing bloody illusions. The traitor Primarch Xideluo Eriteliya used resonance with the Warp to assault the region, while Li Hai entered the Warp to draw him away from the planet 417 418 420.

After the Astronomican vanished, the Rainbow Light’s crew struggled to navigate the Warp and relied on Li Hai’s prophecy-type Psionic Power and Phenomenon Fiction. The ship later encountered Warp rifts, daemon armies, unstable routes, and major discrepancies between Warp travel time and material-universe time 425 427.

At a later point, an unknown force completely isolated a vast region of the material universe from the Warp, drastically reducing Li Hai’s effective range and preventing him from maintaining a Chaos-energy construct 470. When the Warhammer Universe was subsequently destroyed, the entities hidden in the deepest Warp were caught in the blast and vaporized 485.

Nature & Properties

• The Warp is a realm of mind and Chaos: multifarious, infinitely deep, and not governed by ordinary material-universe travel limits 420.
• Its external form is identified as the Great Source; powerful Psionic users can resonate with it and draw Chaos energy across the boundary between worlds 418.
• Warp energy can ignore the conventional speed-of-light limit when crossing space, as demonstrated by Fel Energy waves reaching Backroom Star from afar 417.
• Travel through the Warp is not limited by conventional speed restrictions; sufficiently strong travelers can move as quickly as their abilities allow 420.
• Warp rifts are gigantic immaterial entities or openings within the realm. They can contain large-scale battles, daemon forces, and vast concentrations of unstable energy 426 427.
• Warp routes are unreliable. They can shift, distort time, force travelers off course, or deposit vessels in lethal locations if navigated blindly 425 427.

Psionic Resonance

• A Psionic user who unifies all seven Psionic disciplines and reaches LV61 forms a Small Source within their body.
• This Small Source resonates with the Warp, the external Great Source, allowing the user to draw on its Chaos energy and tear open reality’s veil 418.
• Li Hai’s Psionic Power eventually developed into a miniature Warp within his mind. At LV330, it expanded further and restored an approximately hundredfold Warp-based enhancement to his overall combat power 614.

Corruption and Manifestation

• Dense Warp Fel Energy can revive dead creatures, drive further mutation in already altered lifeforms, and inflict violent illusions and curses upon a planet-wide scale 417.
• Chaos Demons normally enter the material realm as projections; their true essence remains in the Warp and can resurrect there after a physical manifestation is destroyed 394.
• Demon-type Psionic Power can create temporary Warp portals, suppress other Psionic users, and banish Chaos Demons back into the Warp 384.
• Sacred Word-type Psionic Power can manipulate Warp energy for bombardment, soul attacks, sealing rifts, and expelling Fel Energy demons 384.

Travel & Navigation

• Ancient webways — Countless surviving or damaged webways exist within the Warp. They dramatically increase travel speed for anything that can enter them 420.
• Golden Emperor Road — A shifting Warp webway discovered by the Emperor; locating it requires a rare ancient device 425.
• Astronomican — Its disappearance deprived interstellar navigators of a reliable guide through the Warp, making normal navigation effectively a gamble 425.
• Geller Field — Protects vessels from the Warp’s harmful effects during faster-than-light travel. A Geller Field developed to an extreme level can isolate material space from the Warp entirely 392 470.
• Warp Shuttle — A single-person starship that permits individual Warp travel. Without a Geller Field, its user risks warp storms, daemon encounters, mental collapse, and death 392.

Relationships

• Li Hai — Initially unable to cross the barrier between Backroom Star and the Warp, he later entered it in battle, created a Warp-energy sword art, and gained a miniature Warp through Psionic advancement 361 420 427 614.
• Chaos Demons — Their true bodies and essences reside in the Warp; material manifestations are projections that can return there after destruction 394.
• Xideluo Eriteliya — The Chaos Primarch used Seven Systems United Psionic Power to form a Small Source, resonate with the Warp, and summon massive Chaos-energy attacks 418 420.
• Human Empire — Its starships use Warp webways for long-range travel, while its navigation depends heavily on protective fields and reliable Warp guidance 406 425.
• Backroom Star — Its long-standing separation from the Warp delayed outside access; the reappearance of rifts and Chaos Demons marked the collapse of that isolation 382 406.
