Background / History
Saitama first appears as a young man confronting Crablante while protecting a child. Zenin Tachibana witnesses him kill the monster and later becomes his neighbor. The two train together for three years, though Tachibana cannot reproduce Saitama’s extraordinary results by following the same routine 262 275.
Tachibana introduces Saitama to the Hero Association and suggests the name “One-Punch Man.” Registration brings Saitama recognition that his earlier, largely unwitnessed monster defeats had not earned him 263. After learning Sky Walk from Tachibana, he patrols three cities from the air, becomes increasingly active, and gains fan clubs 268.
Saitama defeats Deep Sea King in J-City and passes Sweet Mask’s S-Class assessment. During the Monster Association raid, he defeats Monster King Orochi before accompanying Tachibana into an alternate space to confront God 274 275 284. When God badly injures Tachibana, Saitama fights and defeats God. The two reunite in space and return to Earth 286 288.
Appearance
Saitama initially has thick hair; it gradually falls out during his three years of training 262.
- Build: A sculpted physique revealed during the Hero Association’s physical test 263.
- Hero outfit: A khaki-yellow suit and white cape; his gloves are red 268 275 287.
- Temporary change: He grows hair while trapped in God’s Four-Dimensional Space Matrix, then becomes bald again after escaping 287.
Personality
Saitama says he became a hero as a hobby. Helping people makes him happy, and he says he would continue even without recognition, though he enjoys the appreciation his registered hero work brings 269. He donates much of his monster-fighting income to people affected by attacks, while remaining frugal and particularly enthusiastic about supermarket discounts 281.
One-sided fights rarely excite him anymore. He becomes eager to challenge Tachibana after seeing his strength and feels a long-missed rush of emotion when God survives his Serious Punch series 262 268 287. He can also be merciful: knowing Sweet Mask has protected people despite becoming a monster, Saitama spares and encourages him 272 275.
