"Beep—"
The countdown timer hit zero in the mind of Yu Xiaogang, the sound acting like a death warrant that shattered his last shred of hope.
In that instant, Yu Xiaogang's body became like a machine fitted with a mainspring; a massive force entirely beyond his control seized his legs.
His body, which had been frozen in place, spun around violently. His right leg lifted high, and he delivered a savage kick to the heavy mahogany door of the office.
"Bang!"
With a deafening crash, the mahogany door was kicked wide open by this brute force, slamming into the wall and echoing with a thunderous boom.
Yu Xiaogang sprinted out of the office in a posture so ridiculous it defied description.
His arms swung wildly at his sides, and his legs moved with such frequency they left afterimages, making him look exactly like a duck with its tail on fire.
"Ah—no! Stop! Please, stop!"
As Yu Xiaogang ran frantically, he let out desperate, miserable screams.
He tried with all his might to force his hands to grab the walls or pillars lining the corridor, but under the system's mandatory command, his hands remained clamped tightly over his face.
His ten fingers dug into his skin, attempting to shield his identity, for he knew exactly where he was heading; if he were recognized, the reputation he had spent a lifetime building would be utterly destroyed.
"Ding! Warning to the host: covering your face during mission execution is prohibited. Failure to comply will be treated as dereliction of duty!"
The system's cold, mechanical voice echoed in his mind once more.
Immediately following, a weak electric current surged through his nerves into his hands.
Yu Xiaogang's hands went numb, and he involuntarily released his face, exposing his features—twisted in terror and humiliation—completely to the open air.
The system's forced execution left him unable to stop; his legs moved like wheels of fire, pounding madly against the stone slabs of the corridor.
This speed was even thirty percent faster than when he normally ran at full power as a level 29 Soul Grand Master, whipping up a gale that sent the potted plants along the hallway swaying and toppling.
It was the time between classes at the academy, and the corridor was packed with students and instructors coming and going.
When they heard the commotion and turned their heads, they were all stunned.
A young instructor holding a cup of hot tea was discussing lesson plans with a colleague; seeing a figure roar past, his hand shook in fright, spilling scalding tea everywhere as his cup hit the floor with a "clatter" and shattered into pieces.
"Who... who is that? Running so fast, are they rushing to their own funeral?" A senior male student stared, his mouth hanging open wide enough to fit an egg.
"Wait, look at that face—isn't that Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang, the one the Dean personally welcomed just a moment ago?" Another sharp-eyed female student pointed at the sprinting back, her voice filled with disbelief.
"How is that possible! Just now, Grandmaster had the air of an expert, walking with such measured grace. Why is he running through campus like a stray dog with its tail stepped on? He's completely abandoned all decorum!"
The surrounding crowd erupted into chaos. Everyone stopped in their tracks, staring dumbfounded at Yu Xiaogang's pathetic, disheveled figure.
They could not reconcile the lunatic screaming and sprinting before them with the legendary, erudite, and inscrutable master of martial soul theory.
Su Yu held Tang Wu's hand and, with Xiao Wu in tow, strolled leisurely out of the office.
He watched Yu Xiaogang's retreating figure, a mocking sneer curling the corners of his lips.
This was the fate of being controlled by the system. Once the underlying mission logic was altered by the Conceptual Eraser, even a high-and-mighty transmigrator could only become a marionette toyed with by the rules.
"Brother Yu, what's wrong with him?" Tang Wu gripped Su Yu's hand tightly, her large eyes filled with confusion.
Just a moment ago in the office, that man had looked like he wanted to eat someone alive; how had he turned into this state in the blink of an eye?
"Perhaps he suddenly remembered something of life-or-death importance." Su Yu's tone was flat as he pulled Tang Wu along, following Yu Xiaogang at a leisurely pace.
Xiao Wu walked beside them, watching Yu Xiaogang's comical running form, and finally couldn't help but burst into uproarious laughter.
"Hahaha! I'm dying! Did that old guy take the wrong medicine?" Xiao Wu laughed until she doubled over, the rabbit ears on her head twitching with every movement. "Look at how his legs are churning—he's running faster than any Wind Baboon I've ever seen! He was acting like some worldly expert just now, and now his true colors are showing!"
Xiao Wu's crisp laughter echoed through the corridor, drawing side-glances from the surrounding students.
But she didn't care; she felt incredibly satisfied.
Up ahead, Yu Xiaogang was still sprinting.
His heart was bleeding, and he begged the damn system frantically in his mind: "System, my lord! I beg you! I'll do anything—let me go kill a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, let me challenge the Martial Soul Hall, I'll even eat dung if you want! Please, lift the control and change the mission! If I go into the women's bathhouse, my reputation will be completely ruined!"
Yu Xiaogang's voice was thick with tears; he was truly terrified.
However, the system offered no response.
Directly in his line of sight, on the dark red system panel, a massive red arrow pointed firmly toward the female-only area in the southeast corner of the academy.
That arrow was like a guillotine hanging over his head, mercilessly guiding him toward the abyss.
He watched helplessly as he drew closer and closer to the restricted area marked "Men Prohibited," his heart hammering against his ribs so hard it felt like it would jump out of his throat.
"No! Stop! That's the female dormitory area ahead!" Yu Xiaogang roared internally.
The female students passing by were gathered in small groups chatting when they suddenly saw a man with a buzzcut, his face twisted and eyes bloodshot, sprinting toward them—and his trajectory was aimed straight for the bathhouse behind them. They were all terrified, their faces draining of color.
"Ah! A pervert!"
A female student in a short skirt shrieked, dropping her books and turning to run.
"Help! There's a hooligan in the women's area!"
The female students screamed and scattered, fleeing like a flock of startled birds.
The looks they cast at Yu Xiaogang were filled with horror and disgust.
Yu Xiaogang heard these jeers and felt so ashamed and indignant that he wished he could find a crack in the ground to crawl into right then and there.
He wanted to close his eyes to avoid seeing these scenes, but the system's forced command kept his eyelids propped wide open, compelling him to take in every single look of contempt from those around him.
In the midst of his frantic sprint, the shoe on Yu Xiaogang's right foot went flying with a "whoosh," slamming into the bushes nearby.
He was left with only one shoe, his other foot clad only in a white sock as it struck the rough stone path, sending a piercing pain through him with every step.
His once neatly groomed crew cut was now a chaotic mess in the wind, with a few longer strands of hair plastered to his forehead by sweat, making him look incredibly disheveled.
Yet he was completely unable to stop, his legs continuing to stride forward tirelessly under the system's control.
Ahead, the door marked with a pink sign and the large characters "Women's Bathhouse" was already within reach.
