Background / History
On Planet Vegeta, Vegeta is recognized as a prince and a gifted young Saiyan. His talent does not protect his pride: Paranti taunts him for falling behind Baros, withstands his angry punch, and beats him after he strikes first 30 32.
After Baros drives Frieza away from Planet Vegeta, Vegeta leads Saiyans who did not leave with Baros. Pursuit by the Frieza Force reduces his group to a handful, including Nappa and Turles. Raditz remains devoted to him and proposes recruiting Kakarot from Earth 346 522 523 533.
On Namek, Vegeta sees multiple Saiyans transform and learns that Super Saiyan is a transformation rather than simply a measure of strength. Determined to reach it himself, he charges into Krillin's fight with Dore but is badly beaten. Baros later takes him to Divine Martial Battle Star, where a child defeats him after he calls himself the Saiyan Prince. The humiliation drives him to train; Baros eventually sends him back to Earth with the Z Fighters 570 581 622 699.
Personality
Vegeta's pride repeatedly puts him into conflicts he cannot win. He attacks Paranti after she compares him unfavorably with Baros, challenges Baros after being dismissed on Grand Kai's Planet, and later attacks Baros again despite owing him his resurrection 30 369 751.
Defeats also sharpen his resolve. Seeing Kakarot and other Saiyans reach Super Saiyan makes him seek stronger opponents, while being ignored by Frieza's forces forces him to confront how little his title means without power 581 585. In the GT-era timeline, he pairs that drive with a calculated use of Bulma's Blutz Wave Generator to attain Super Saiyan 4 888 892.
