The Red Ribbon Army affair had more or less come to an end, though Sun Yu still had to stay on guard against Dr. Gero's "Project X."
Lana was practically obsessed, spending all day holed up in the Gravity Training Room with no intention of letting Sun Yu use it to train. Fortunately, Dr. Briefs had promised that a new Gravity Training Room would be ready within five days, so Sun Yu wasn't in a hurry.
Over the next two days, Sun Yu found some time to head out to the sea and locate Kame House. After all, with a super-rich man on his side, searching the islands by satellite was no difficult task. It hadn't taken much effort at all to find Master Roshi's home.
Master Roshi wasn't surprised by Sun Yu's arrival. He had already sensed the powerful aura Sun Yu had unleashed during his battle. That chilling feeling, despite the vast distance between them, was impossible to forget. Sun Yu had come to discuss martial arts, naturally, but Master Roshi kept playing dumb and refused to say much of anything.
Fortunately, Sun Yu had come prepared. He tossed out a Hoi-Poi Capsule, and two towering stacks of books appeared. They were all the latest swimsuit fashion magazines. At the sight of those alluring covers, Master Roshi got so excited that his nose started bleeding. He lunged over, grabbed a magazine at random, and began studying it intently.
Those swimsuit fashion magazines quickly brought Sun Yu and Master Roshi closer. In Master Roshi's own words, it was like they'd met too late in life! While Master Roshi pored over the magazines, Sun Yu asked him about a few training matters, and Master Roshi answered everything he asked, holding nothing back. The old master was worthy of his reputation as a martial arts expert who had lived for more than three hundred years. His insight into martial arts was extraordinary, and Sun Yu felt he had gained a great deal.
Sun Yu stayed at Kame House for a few days, until word came from Dr. Briefs that the Gravity Training Room built specifically for him was finished.
After saying goodbye to Master Roshi, Sun Yu quickly flew back to Dr. Briefs's home in East City. Bulma had been waiting at the door for him, and the moment she saw him, she threw herself at him.
"Sun Yu, where have you been these past two days? You didn't even take me out to play!" Bulma pouted, as if she'd suffered a terrible injustice.
Sun Yu scooped up little Bulma and said gently, "I went to see a friend. I'll take you with me next time, okay?"
He wondered what it would be like if Bulma met Master Roshi now.
"Okay, okay!" Bulma wrapped her arms around Sun Yu's neck and said happily.
As long as Sun Yu took her out, she was happy, no matter who they went to see.
"Where's your dad? I heard the new Gravity Training Room is finished."
Sun Yu carried Bulma inside. She pointed toward the basement and said, "This way. I helped build the new Gravity Training Room for you, too, Sun Yu!"
"Really? You're amazing, Bulma!"
Sun Yu happily pinched her little cheek. He wasn't sure what Bulma meant by "helped," but there was no doubt that her extraordinary scientific talent was beginning to show.
With Bulma leading the way, Sun Yu arrived at the entrance to the Gravity Training Room. Since he needed to test it, he told Bulma to wait outside and went in alone.
The Gravity Training Room was huge, covering an area of about two hundred square meters. The walls were lined with thick titanium alloy plates, and a gravity control console stood in the center. From there, he could adjust the level of increased gravity.
After closing the door, Sun Yu walked over and activated the gravity amplification device using the icons displayed on the control console. Since the materials couldn't withstand more than a limited amount of stress, they couldn't build a training room capable of handling over a hundred times Earth's gravity in such a short time. For now, the maximum setting was only times. Sun Yu set it to times, and the device began to hum. Moments later, a tremendous downward force pressed against him, making him feel as though his body were filled with lead.
Because he was still wearing his Weighted Gear, the gravity bearing down on Sun Yu was equivalent to times Earth's gravity. Even with a battle power of twenty-four thousand, he was struggling to bear it.
But when he thought of Lana training so desperately, how could Sun Yu slack off?
Training wasn't something that could be done in a day. It called for steady progress and small goals. For example, first, he could aim to withstand a hundred times Earth's gravity!
Though his whole body felt as heavy as lead and even taking a single step required tremendous effort, Sun Yu wasn't the sort to give up easily. He started with the simplest exercise, walking, then moved on to jogging. Once his leg muscles had adjusted a little to the gravity, he began working his arm muscles with push-ups and horse-stance punches...
When he could move freely under times Earth's gravity, Sun Yu gradually increased the level again and continued training this way.
Since they had no idea when Dr. Gero's scheme might come to light, Sun Yu and Lana were both training with all their might. They spent most of their time in their respective Gravity Training Rooms, sometimes even eating and sleeping in them. Unlike Lana, however, Sun Yu set aside some time each day to meditate and refine his state of mind.
Time slipped by. In the blink of an eye, four months had passed, and Dr. Gero seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth. There had been no news of him at all.
Bulma was never happy about Sun Yu spending all day cooped up in the Gravity Training Room. Every day, she would lean against the window of his training room and watch him, looking as forlorn as could be.
"Sun Yu, you promised you'd take me shopping!"
One day, when Bulma saw Sun Yu leave the Gravity Training Room, she rushed into his arms without caring that he was drenched in sweat.
"Uh, didn't we say we'd go in two weeks?" Sun Yu picked up little Bulma and pinched her cheek.
Bulma pouted and said unhappily, "It's already been a month, and you still haven't taken me out to play!"
Sun Yu smiled awkwardly. He hadn't realized so much time had passed. Ever since he entered the Gravity Training Room, his battle power had soared. He could now handle times Earth's gravity, and without his Weighted Gear, his maximum battle power could reach ninety-five thousand. Because Lana had entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and unlike Sun Yu, didn't have to spend so much time meditating each day, she had already adapted completely to times Earth's gravity. Without her Weighted Gear, her maximum battle power could reach one hundred and twenty thousand—a level she had never even dared to dream of reaching.
As the saying went, work and rest were best balanced. After months of intense training, it was time to take a break, so Sun Yu agreed to Bulma's request.
"All right, then. How about we go out today?" Sun Yu said with a smile.
"Today? Sure, sure! You're the best, Sun Yu!" Bulma said, then tilted her head back and kissed him on the cheek.
