History

Origins and Merger

Blazing, Godwind, and Skywater were longstanding allies collectively known as the Elemental Academies. They traveled together and supported one another, unlike their looser relations with the sect-backed Elephant and Thunder Academies 34.

After the attacks on the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, both Heaven Dou and Spirit Hall sought to draw Soul Masters into their respective centers of power. Xiaofei proposed merging the three allied academies on land already controlled by Blazing Academy, preserving their independence through a stronger, explicitly educational institution 54.

The merger announcement established Elemental City and three initial departments. It made Elemental Academy the continent's second-largest Soul Master academy at that time, behind Spirit Hall Advanced Soul Master Academy 54.

Five-Department Foundation

Xiaofei proposed adding earth and metal instruction so applicants outside the original three elements would have suitable departments. Huo Tianchen invited Niugao and Yang Wudi to provide the necessary expertise, teachers, and construction support 55 56.

The Defense Clan and Breaking Clan formally joined, publicly renouncing involvement in sect affairs. Their arrival completed the academy's five academic departments, with a plantation serving as a sixth teaching area 58.

The Defense Clan led construction with roughly one thousand participating Soul Masters. Once Elemental City's framework was complete, the original academies' students relocated there. The founding ceremony brought together representatives of Spirit Hall, Heaven Dou, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, and other academies 60 61.

Xiaofei's Administration

After returning from four years of training on Sea God Island, Xiaofei was appointed honorary vice dean. The position initially carried neither authority nor benefits, although he subsequently taught and sparred with students across all five departments 98 99 100.

When the senior leadership departed to hunt Soul Rings, Xiaofei became acting dean. His administration introduced new rules and the first academy-wide Spirit Combat Competition, both to develop students and to make the academy's strength visible to outside powers 114 115 116.

War, Refuge, and Expansion

The academy remained neutral when war began between Heaven Dou, Star Luo, and Spirit Hall. As the fighting intensified, it closed its gates and restricted outside contact rather than mobilizing students for battle 143 154.

Xiaofei expanded the grounds, added a massive moat, and relocated the Divine Fire Tower to the academy as a cultivation facility. Later, he constructed an earth-vein-powered cultivation site modeled in part on Sea God's Light 160 182.

Following Heaven Dou's defeat, survivors of the Clear Sky Sect and Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect sought refuge. Xiaofei offered protection only to those willing to join the academy permanently and abandon outside conflicts. Ning Fengzhi dissolved his sect; Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo entered the academy as ordinary teachers 171 172.

Federation Era

After the Douluo Federation was established, Xiaofei built the Phoenix City Branch while retaining the main academy at its original location. Most personnel from the former Spirit Hall Advanced Soul Master Academy were incorporated into this branch 243.

Elemental Academy won three consecutive Douluo Federation Advanced Soul Master Tournaments. Its influence also extended into government: nearly half of the Federation's upper ranks came from the academy 243 244.

By the ending, Elemental Academy, the Body Sect, and the Sun Moon Continent Soul Tool Academy were the three great powers whose deterrence prevented large-scale war between the Douluo Federation and Sun Moon Empire 299.

Campus Layout and Cultivation Sites

  • Original city: A regular hexagon with six walls, each twenty kilometers long, and a gate centered in every wall. Administration occupies the center; the five departments and Botanical Garden each occupy roughly one-sixth of the city 60.
  • Expanded grounds: Xiaofei initiates an expansion to a diameter of one hundred kilometers, with bridges and a ten-kilometer-wide surrounding moat 160.
  • Cultivation Tower: The Divine Fire Tower is moved from Undying Volcano to the academy's center and modified with divine power for selected core disciples 160.
  • Pyramid cultivation site: A four-sided stone mountain supports a palace and an enormous Fire Phoenix statue made of Extraterrestrial Meteor Copper. Divine power binds the structure together, while an earth vein replenishes its energy 182.
  • Cultivation stairs: The pyramid's four sides provide inner-academy core disciples with training conditions resembling Sea God's Light 182.
  • River inhabitants: Tang San discovers two powerful Soul Beasts in the surrounding river, including the Deep Sea Demonic Whale 178.

Admissions and Academy Rules

Enrollment

  • Applicants are not rejected for their social or factional background; commoners, nobles, and students from competing powers are treated equally 55 101.
  • Candidates first undergo standardized tests of their martial soul's elemental attribute and Soul Power, followed by department-specific assessments 62.
  • Successful candidates receive uniforms, academy and department rules, and dormitory assignments 62.
  • Background equality does not remove admission standards. Princess Xue Ke's age and swan martial soul do not meet the academy's requirements 102.
  • Graduates may choose their own affiliations. Many enter sects or imperial service, while some outstanding students remain at the academy 100.

Conduct and Neutrality

  • No faction-building: Students may not recruit one another into outside forces or form factions within the academy 100.
  • No institutional participation in sectarian disputes: Academic exchanges are acceptable; political and military alliances are repeatedly refused 62 63 101.
  • Rules bind teachers and students alike: The founding ceremony displays them on a monumental stone carved by Yang Wudi using Soul Breaking Spear techniques 61.
  • Wartime restrictions: Unauthorized departures or outside contact result in expulsion. Urgent family visits require a teacher's accompaniment, and Soul Ring hunts are postponed 154.
  • Later permanent admissions: Refugees and established Soul Masters must meet the academy's standards and swear martial-soul oaths. Under Xiaofei's divine power, breaking such an oath risks shattering the offender's martial soul 171 176.

Competitions and Teaching

Academy-Wide Spirit Combat Competition

  • Eligibility: All teachers and students are required to participate 115.
  • Divisions: Soul Master, Soul Grandmaster, Soul Elder, Soul Ancestor, Soul King, and Soul Emperor, each split into combat and support categories 115.
  • Format: Single elimination, with fresh lots drawn after each round. Early matches use multiple arenas; semifinals onward take place on the central grand arena under Xiaofei's supervision 115.
  • Rewards: The top thirty-two in each division receive prizes, while the top four receive personal instruction from Xiaofei 115.
  • Championship prizes: The twelve winners receive thousand-year medicinal herbs valued at more than one hundred thousand Gold Soul Coins each 116.
  • Political effect: The tournament exposes the academy's strength and discourages attempts by Heaven Dou and Spirit Hall to coerce it 116.

External Tournament Record

Tournament Documented Result
Douluo Federation Advanced Soul Master Tournament Three consecutive championships, achieved without Wang Lanfang or Wang Mingxu participating 243
Later Spirit Master Tournament lineup Two Soul Kings and five Soul Ancestors, prompting Yu Xiaogang to question the competitive balance 245

External Relations

  • Heaven Dou Empire — Initially seeks control through relocation, then recruitment of graduates and formal alliances. The academy rejects military involvement and a proposed royal marriage alliance 55 101 102.
  • Spirit Hall / Spirit Hall Empire — Observes the merger rather than attacking immediately, attends the founding ceremony, and later offers recruitment, marriage alliances, and a place among the Upper Three Sects; these overtures are declined 55 61 94 102.
  • Qian Renxue — Xiaofei agrees that the academy may come under her command if Spirit Hall wins the war, provided it retains independence and remains outside external conflicts 148 172.
  • Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect — Initially hopes for cooperation against Spirit Hall. After its dissolution, Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo become academy teachers under binding nonintervention commitments 55 171 172.
  • Shrek Academy and the Golden Iron Triangle — Seek an anti-Spirit Hall alliance and are refused. Later retain academic contact with Elemental Academy under the Federation 63 244.
  • Clear Sky Sect — Niugao and Yang Wudi explicitly sever their former ties. Tang Hao's request for help rescuing Tang Chen is rejected as an outside affair 62 132.
  • Thunder and Elephant Academies — Are not part of the unified institution. Their sect backing and troubled relations distinguish them from the three founding allies; Thunder Academy's history of retaliation against opponents is specifically cited 34 61 63.
