People always wanted something for nothing, hoping to bet a little and win big. Most game companies knew exactly how to exploit that mindset, which was why they'd introduced the deeply sinful gacha system.

The line "A gambler can't lose every day—next time, for sure" had been worn to death. But when it came to pulling for characters, people didn't even have to think before blurting out, "This is so worth it!"

As a bona fide gacha addict, Fulgrim had secretly returned to the underground lab, hoping to complete her once-every-two-years gacha ritual and, while she was at it, find out whether her luck had finally turned.

She pulled out a bowl of fried rice. In the silent lab, the only sound was her noisy gulping. Ful quickly finished her offering, then washed her hands in the lab sink.

"God, please let me pull something good this time!"

If there were a god of gacha, Fulgrim would surely have become one of his most devoted followers. Sadly, no such ridiculous thing existed. After all, if there really were one, she wouldn't be the chosen one. That honor would go to one of those five prized treasures.

She pulled the lever. Full of eager anticipation, Fulgrim knelt before the magic circle, muttering a string of incomprehensible words.

But things didn't go her way. Gamblers never got a happy ending. Staring at the lingerie in her hands, Fulgrim's faith shattered. She went berserk and howled at the sky:

"Impossible! This can't be happening! It's been seven hundred years! You can't give me this crap every single time! You might as well give me a salted fish. At least I could eat it with porridge!"

She tossed the bundle of fabric aside, convinced the magic circle was trash. She'd never come back again.
