Chapter 478: Making a Name for Himself
The Adeptus Custodes, or what we often call ultimate life-forms, wore gleaming golden Achilles Power Armor and their trademark red crests. People often teased them by calling them Corn Spirits, and called the Emperor the Soviet leader who had been especially fond of corn on the cob.
As the Emperor's own golden-armored guards, the Adeptus Custodes had virtually no Warp influence in them at all. They could be called the perfect template for humanity in the Emperor's eyes.
Yet most of these so-called perfect humans looked down on the Primarchs. They believed the Primarchs weren't worthy of being the Emperor's sons, and were nothing but Warp-born freaks and idiots.
Though this was true, the Adeptus Custodes had never dared show it openly while the Emperor was around. At most, they'd made a few snide remarks.
But when the Horus Heresy broke out, the already precarious trust shattered completely. The Adeptus Custodes blamed the Astartes' brotherhood for the Heresy, believing the Imperium wouldn't have fallen so far if not for those walking tin cans.
So when an Adeptus Custodes met a Space Marine, it was rather like border troops encountering the Imperial Secret Police in the late Ming dynasty: each side thought the other was full of idiots.
That was how things were between most Legions, but the Blackwatch was an exception. From Hogg down to the newest recruits, every one of those Cloaked Cockroaches was a social butterfly who could get along with anyone.
On top of that, they shared an interest in card games, weren't favored by the Warp (every member of the Blackwatch carried Psionic Energy), and often shared their stolen goodies. The Adeptus Custodes and the Blackwatch got along famously.
