The rain was still falling.
Guy's breathing grew heavier.
With the third of the Eight Inner Gates open, green vapor rose from his body.
The rain evaporated the moment it touched him, forming a thin white mist around him.
Although the Eight Inner Gates made him stronger, he still had the body of a child not yet nine years old.
His chakra was limited, and so was his physical endurance.
At most, he could keep the Gates open for ten minutes.
Half that time had already passed.
Five minutes to deal with two chunin.
Was that enough?
It was enough.
But Guy's goal.
Was far more than just two chunin!
He had long since been able to open the fourth of the Eight Inner Gates, the Gate of Pain.
He had simply never opened it.
Because once that gate was opened, he could only maintain it for less than half a minute.
He intended to save those thirty seconds for Iwami Shigezo!
Out of the corner of his eye, Guy glanced toward Choza.
Choza and Iwami Shigezo were still fighting.
No.
More accurately, Choza was being beaten back.
Although the Spinach Pill had indeed greatly increased Choza's strength.
His body, more than three meters tall, was like a small mountain, and every punch he threw made the ground tremble.
But Iwami Shigezo refused to clash with him head-on.
He was dodging.
While dodging, he used Earth Release to wear Choza down.
Earth Style: Earth Spear, Earth Spear, Earth Style: Earth Wall...
One after another, they all struck at Choza.
Several wounds had appeared on Choza's body. A stone spear had sliced open his left arm, and blood dripped from his fingers.
His breathing was beginning to grow ragged as well.
The effects of the Spinach Pill would not last much longer.
Guy saw Choza reach into his clothes.
That was where he kept the box containing the three-colored pills.
Guy's heart tightened.
If Choza ate a Curry Pill, he could indeed suppress that jonin for a while.
But the side effects were too severe.
Without prompt treatment from a medical ninja of Tsunade's level, it would cause permanent damage to his body.
And Tsunade could never possibly appear here.
Guy withdrew his gaze.
He could not drag this out any longer.
He had to end this quickly, then go help Choza.
He tightened his grip on the broadsword.
The blade was already chipped, with notches all along its edge like teeth on a saw.
But it was still usable.
The two chunin across from him moved as well.
They did not foolishly rush at him like the genin from before.
The two exchanged a glance, then simultaneously stepped back two paces to widen the distance.
"Earth Style: Earth Wall!"
The one on the left pressed both hands against the ground.
A wall of earth rose before Guy.
Guy turned sideways, intending to go around it.
"Earth Style: Earth Spike!"
The one on the right covered his arm with stone.
A sharp spike thrust out from the side of the earth wall.
The angle was vicious.
Guy raised his sword to block it.
Clang!
A kunai slammed into the blade, numbing his wrist from the impact.
He took a step back.
Three more shuriken flew from behind the earth wall, sealing off his retreat from different angles.
Their coordination was seamless.
One blocked his vision, one engaged at close range, and one attacked from afar.
Guy gritted his teeth and twisted aside, dodging two of them.
The third grazed his shoulder, leaving a cut.
He lowered his head and glanced at the wound.
Blood streamed down his arm.
The two chunin gave him no chance to catch his breath.
The earth wall collapsed.
The chunin on the left had already finished his hand seals.
"Earth Style: Earth Dragon Bullet!"
Mud from the ground gathered into the shape of a dragon, opening its jaws as it charged toward him.
This time, Guy did not dodge. He charged straight at the earth dragon.
At the same time, he crossed his arms in front of himself.
Golden Bell Shield!
A faint golden glow emerged around his body.
Bang!!
The earth dragon slammed into him. The golden glow shook violently, as though it were about to be torn apart.
But it held.
The golden light faded.
He lowered his arms. His chest ached dully, and a trace of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
Although the Golden Bell Shield had not completely blocked the attack, it had greatly shortened the distance between him and that chunin.
The chunin's eyes widened.
"He blocked a C-rank ninjutsu with his body?!"
"What the hell is that?!"
The other chunin gritted his teeth and rushed in from the side, his kunai covered in a layer of stone.
"Earth Style: Rock Fist!"
His fist doubled in size and smashed toward Guy's head with a howl through the air.
Guy did not dodge.
This was the chance he had been waiting for!
As the chunin from the side charged in, a brief opening appeared between him and the chunin in front.
A gap of three meters.
That was enough.
Guy moved.
He did not charge forward. He rolled to the side.
It looked pathetic.
But it was fast.
The Rock Fist smashed into the ground, blasting out a crater and sending mud and water flying.
Guy sprang up from the ground, his right hand already gripping the broadsword embedded in the earth.
The instant he pulled the blade free, he turned around.
"Precept-Breaking Blade: Thirty-Sixth Form!"
"Falling into the Mortal World!"
He had practiced this form tens of thousands of times.
The blade cut through the curtain of rain, trailing an arc of light.
At that moment, the chipped blade seemed sharp again.
The chunin on the side had just drawn back his fist and had not yet regained his footing when that blade light reached him.
He instinctively raised his arm to block.
The stone-covered arm guarded his front.
Clang—
The sword struck the stone, scattering sparks.
The stone cracked.
But it did not shatter.
The chunin had just begun to grin, pleased that he had blocked it, when Guy's leg rose.
Vajra Leg!
His right foot glowed with golden light as it kicked upward into the chunin's chin.
Bang!
The man flew upward.
Guy jumped after him.
In midair, he gripped the sword with both hands and raised it over his head.
"Precept-Breaking Blade: Fortieth Form!"
"Karma Cutter!"
The blade light chopped down from above.
Suspended in the air with nowhere to brace himself, the chunin could only watch helplessly as the sword descended.
Slash.
The blade cut in through his shoulder and sliced down to his chest.
Blood sprayed out, mixing with the rain.
They landed together.
Guy hit the ground first, dropping to one knee and supporting himself with the sword planted in the earth.
The chunin crashed down, rolled twice, and lay motionless.
Blood spread from beneath him, diluted by the rain.
One remained.
Guy stood and turned around.
The last chunin stood five meters away. He looked at his companion sprawled on the ground, then at Guy.
The expression on his face changed.
It was not anger.
It was fear!
"You... what exactly are you..."
Guy did not answer.
He panted. Green vapor still rose from his body, but it had grown fainter than before.
The time for the Eight Inner Gates was nearly up.
Less than three minutes remained.
The chunin had clearly noticed as well.
He saw the green vapor around Guy fading.
He saw Guy's breaths growing quicker.
"About to give out?"
Delight appeared on the chunin's face, then swiftly hardened into viciousness.
His fear and anger became the force driving him to kill Guy.
He slammed his hands together.
"Earth Style: Earth—"
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"
A massive fireball erupted from the side without warning.
Bang!
The Great Fireball struck the Iwagakure chunin squarely in the chest!
"Aah!!!"
His entire body burst into flames, and he frantically gathered chakra to extinguish them.
But the very next second.
A flash of light streaked past his eyes.
Then, the Iwagakure chunin stopped moving.
Even as flames continued to burn across his body.
He remained completely still.
He was dead.
He had died beneath Guy's blade.
He had died to Ebisu's Great Fireball Technique!
That was right—the one who had launched that final fireball was none other than Ebisu.
Guy had never fought alone.
On the battlefield, if one only focused on the enemy before them.
And ignored everything else.
They would die a truly miserable death.
