Background

Guy’s consciousness awakened in the body of his six-year-old self after failing the Ninja Academy entrance assessment because of unqualified ninjutsu and genjutsu aptitude. He retained memories of his former life as Ah-Kai, a Shaolin monk, and inherited the Monk System, its cultivation points, the Yijin Jing, and access to Shaolin’s Seventy-Two Arts. 1

Might Duy refused to let his son’s failure define him. He trained Guy before dawn, secured him a special assessment from the Third Hokage, and taught him that taijutsu could be a path to protecting others. Guy entered the Academy by proving his taijutsu before Hatake Sakumo. 2 4 6

Duy later entrusted him with the Eight Inner Gates, stressing that the forbidden technique was a choice and a last resort rather than a power to pursue recklessly. Guy opened the first three gates within three days, determined to grow strong enough to prevent his father from sacrificing himself. 24 25

Guy is relentlessly disciplined. Even after failing his initial Academy assessment, he committed himself to extreme daily taijutsu practice rather than attempting to compensate with fields unsuited to him. 1 2

He is protective and willing to risk himself for others, from defending Kurenai against bullies to intervening against lethal threats to his classmates and allies. His training is motivated as much by protecting Duy and his companions as by personal strength. 3 17 29
