  • A cold voice behind Rasa called out, "Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!"

Ch. 78Sand Shinobi Retreat!

Orochimaru arrived at Kikyo Mountain and stopped Rasa from crushing Choza, then summoned Manda to devastate Sunagakure’s ranks. With his forces routed and himself wounded and depleted, Rasa ordered a retreat.

  • Orochimaru’s purple snakes bound Rasa, interrupting his jutsu and allowing Choza to escape the collapsing Gold Dust cube.
  • Choza recognized Orochimaru, while Rasa realized Konoha’s intelligence had concealed the Sannin’s arrival and fresh reinforcements.
  • Orochimaru summoned Manda and directed him to attack the Sunagakure forces.
  • Manda crushed through Sunagakure’s ranks, shattering their formation and spreading panic.
  • Rasa ordered his forces to retreat, and the Sunagakure shinobi fled the battlefield.

Ch. 79The War Ended, and Sarutobi Sosuke Was Back in Action

After Orochimaru arrived and drove Sunagakure into retreat, Konoha pursued the fleeing forces while the exhausted survivors tended to the wounded and dead. Guy collapsed after the battle, and the chapter ended at dawn as Choza organized the rescue and battlefield cleanup.

  • Orochimaru ordered the mobile Konoha ninja to pursue Sunagakure, and Sarutobi Sosuke rushed to the front despite his missing arm and severe injuries.
  • Newly arrived reinforcements admired Sarutobi Sosuke, while Kikyo Mountain survivors scorned him for having stayed out of the fighting.
  • Guy collapsed from exhaustion, and Ebisu and Genma carried him away from the pursuit to watch over him.
  • Choza confirmed that Guy, Ebisu, and Genma had survived, then ordered the remaining Konoha ninja to find the wounded, guard Sunagakure prisoners, and clear the battlefield.
  • The survivors worked through the night, and dawn broke as they continued tending to the battlefield.

Ch. 80Targeted by Orochimaru!

Ch. 82Parting (Six updates!)

After mastering the basics of the Multi-Size Technique, Guy and his companions prepared to leave Kikyo Mountain as reinforcements arrived. Choza saw them off and told Guy that the village was working on the special weapon he had requested.

  • Guy shattered a boulder with the Multi-Size Technique, which he had learned in three days, while Ebisu and Genma watched.
  • Ebisu quit practicing the technique because his physique was too weak, and Genma gave it up because he feared becoming bulky.
  • The first replacement reinforcements arrived, and Guy, Ebisu, and Genma prepared to return to Konoha.
  • Choza told Guy that he had submitted the blueprints for Guy’s requested weapon and warned him that it was untested.
  • Guy declined Choza’s offer to obtain a captured ninja sword and left Kikyo Mountain with Ebisu and Shiranui Genma.

Ch. 85Three Letters

Might Guy read letters from Kakashi, Obito, Rin, Kurenai, and Aburame Shikuroo, then wrote replies reassuring them and returning their affection. After Might Duy praised Guy’s bonds with his companions, Guy began telling his father that the battle at Kikyo Mountain had taught him something else.

  • Guy read Kakashi, Obito, and Rin’s letter, which praised his promotion and worried over his long defense of the ridge.
  • Guy read Kurenai’s tear-stained letter, which expressed her concern and longing, and Shikuroo’s detailed report on Kurenai and Asuma.
  • Guy wrote replies to all three groups, telling them he was safe and promising Kurenai a meal for just the two of them after the war.
  • Might Duy praised Guy’s precious companions, and Guy agreed before preparing to send his replies.
  • Guy told Might Duy that he had realized something else on the battlefield at Kikyo Mountain.

Ch. 86Teaching Dai the Yijin Jing!

  • Guy explained the Yijin Jing's chakra circulation to Might Dai and guided him through practicing it.
  • Might Dai quickly learned the basics, and Guy decided to teach him only the Yijin Jing to improve his recovery without encouraging him to risk himself with more dangerous techniques.

  • Guy named the art the Yijin Jing and warned Might Dai never to reveal it to anyone.
  • Might Dai solemnly promised to protect the secret, even if Orochimaru or the Third Hokage asked about Guy.

Ch. 87Settling the Battle Merits

After Might Duy left, Guy read his father’s letter and kept the money and warm soup Duy had prepared for him. At the battle merit office, Guy learned he had earned 506 points for his actions at Kikyo Mountain, and the clerk asked what Sarutobi Sosuke had really done there.

  • Guy read Might Duy’s farewell letter, stored it with his earlier letters, and put away the three hundred thousand ryo Duy had left him.
  • Guy drank the Red Bean Dumpling Soup Duy had prepared, then went to register his battle merits.
  • The clerk told Guy that his total was 506 points, including 300 for warning the camp, 106 for combat and aid, and 100 for helping drive back Pakura.
  • The clerk explained that Sarutobi Sosuke had surrendered his share of the 200 points awarded for driving back Pakura, leaving Guy with 100 points and Ebisu and Shiranui Genma with 50 each.
  • The clerk quietly asked Guy which account of Sarutobi Sosuke’s performance at Kikyo Mountain was true.

Ch. 88A Signature Weapon!

Guy stayed out of the dispute over conflicting accounts of Sarutobi Sosuke’s conduct at Kikyo Mountain and collected the custom weapon he had ordered. He left the merit exchange office with a pair of nunchucks suited to his new ultimate skill, along with supplies bought with his remaining merit.

  • A Chunin clerk asked Guy which of the two competing accounts of Sarutobi Sosuke’s battlefield conduct was true, but Guy refused to comment, following Akimichi Choza’s warning to stay out of the controversy.
  • The clerk gave Guy a custom-made weapon from the Logistics Department, which had cost 480 merit points.
  • Guy opened the box and found a pair of dark-gold nunchucks, then demonstrated how naturally he could wield them.
  • Guy recalled that he had received the low-grade ultimate skill Shaolin Nunchucks after perfecting Mercy Blade and recognized how well the weapon suited him.
  • Guy spent his remaining 26 merit points on Soldier Pills and Explosive Tags, packed his supplies, and left the office.

Ch. 89An Encounter with Hayate and Yugao—Treat Us? Then I Won't Hold Back!

Guy practiced Shaolin Nunchucks at the training grounds, then reunited with Ebisu, Genma, Gekko Hayate, and Uzuki Yugao. After hearing about Guy’s actions at Kikyo Mountain and discussing Hayate and Yugao’s mission, the group agreed to go out for a meal, with Hayate offering to pay.

Ch. 91Yakushi Nonō (Part 4)

Might Guy brought four war orphans to Yakushi Nonō’s struggling orphanage and gave her all his savings to help care for the children. After leaving, Guy was approached by an Anbu and ordered to meet Lord Third.

  • Guy led four children to the Konoha Orphanage and asked Yakushi Nonō to take them in.
  • Nonō agreed despite the staff member’s warning that the orphanage lacked food, medicine, and beds.
  • Guy gave Nonō all the money he had, including the three hundred thousand ryō left by Might Duy, to support the children.
  • Guy left the orphanage, and an Anbu appeared to summon him to Lord Third.

Ch. 92Sarutobi Hiruzen's Promise

The Third Hokage explained why he had subsidized Guy’s new nunchaku and promised to protect him from Sarutobi Sosuke. After learning Guy had donated all his savings to war orphans, the Third hoped to see him grow into a pillar of Konoha, while Guy returned to training.

  • The Third Hokage told Guy that his extraordinary service at Kikyo Mountain merited compensation beyond the points he had received, so he had paid the remaining cost of the nunchaku.
  • The Third Hokage revealed that Sarutobi Sosuke was his distant nephew and promised that Sosuke had been demoted, barred from promotion and the front lines, and exposed by survivors’ testimony.
  • Guy said he had defended the ridge to save lives, and the Third Hokage told him to rest while his next transfer order was prepared.
  • An Anbu member reported that Guy had donated his savings and Might Duy’s 300,000 ryo to support war orphans’ living expenses and education.
  • The Third Hokage praised Guy and hoped he would become a pillar of Konoha, while Guy left the Hokage Building and headed for the training grounds.

Ch. 93New Frontline, New Captain

Guy, Ebisu, and Genma were transferred to the Kirigakure front and assigned to Ninth Squad under Hyuga Yuma. After arriving at the Land of Waves base, they learned their unit was preparing to retake the island from Kirigakure forces.

  • Guy, Ebisu, and Genma received orders to report to Mitokado Homura on the Land of Waves front.
  • The three shinobi traveled with the transferred Konoha forces to the island base and reported to Mitokado Homura.
  • Mitokado Homura assigned them to Ninth Squad under Hyuga Yuma.
  • Hyuga Yuma showed the newcomers the camp and explained that Kirigakure occupied the Land of Waves with about five hundred troops.
  • Hyuga Yuma warned Guy, Ebisu, and Genma that mission completion came before individual performance and scheduled a tactical briefing.

Ch. 94A New Enemy!

Team 9 ambushed a Kirigakure supply ship, defeated its guards, and seized its cargo. As they returned to the Land of Waves outpost, Hyuga Yuma spotted another Kirigakure ship carrying three figures.

  • Hyuga Yuma briefed Guy, Ebisu, and Genma on their mission to intercept a Kirigakure supply ship and warned them to stay cautious.
  • Team 9 ambushed the ship at dawn after Hyuga Yuma confirmed that five guards were aboard.
  • Guy defeated the apparent leader with his nunchaku and a Leaf Hurricane, while Hyuga Yuma, Ebisu, and Genma subdued the other guards.
  • Team 9 captured three enemies, killed two, and took the ship's cargo of Soldier Pills, medical supplies, and ninja tools.
  • During the return voyage, Hyuga Yuma spotted another Kirigakure ship approaching the Land of Waves with three figures on deck.

Ch. 95Ao Without an Eye Mask?!

Team Nine encountered a Kirigakure ship and identified its leader as Ao, a suspected Hozuki youth carrying a Hiramekarei replica, and an unknown girl whom Guy recognized as Mei Terumi. As the ships parted without fighting, Guy realized that Ao was not wearing an eyepatch.

  • Hyuga Yujian ordered Team Nine to speed away after sensing the strength of the three Kirigakure shinobi.
  • Hyuga Yujian identified the leader as the newly promoted jonin Ao and suspected the weapon-carrying youth belonged to the Hozuki Clan.
  • Hyuga Yujian said the youth carried an imitation of Hiramekarei and warned that the unknown girl might also be dangerous.
  • Guy recognized the girl as the future Fifth Mizukage, Mei Terumi, and resolved to be wary of her.
  • Guy realized that Ao had not been wearing an eyepatch.

Ch. 96The "Coveted" Byakugan (Part 4)

Guy realized that Ao might eventually take Hyuga Yuma’s Byakugan, but kept his suspicions to himself. After Team Nine returned to the Konoha outpost with captured supplies and prisoners, Guy remained wary of the dangers ahead.

  • Guy noticed that Ao had both eyes uncovered and suspected that Hyuga Yuma might be the source of the Byakugan Ao would later obtain.
  • Guy chose not to warn Hyuga Yuma or report his suspicion, while Ebisu and Genma discussed Ao’s weapon and the young Kirigakure kunoichi.
  • Hyuga Yuma led Team Nine back to the outpost and reported their successful mission to Mitokado Homura.
  • Mitokado Homura praised Team Nine, ordered the supplies stored and prisoners transferred, and gave the team the day to rest.
  • As Team Nine rested, Guy stayed on guard and worried that Ao might target Hyuga Yuma on the dangerous Land of Waves battlefield.

Ch. 97New Mission Released! A Trap?! (Fifth Watch!)

After two months of Konoha gaining ground in the Land of Waves, Hyuga Yuma received a mission to investigate Kirigakure’s apparent withdrawal. Guy suspected Ao would use the operation as a chance to steal Yuma’s Byakugan, and Team 9 prepared to infiltrate near Mist Island.

  • Konoha won several clashes after Hyuga Yuma spotted Kirigakure’s ambush, allowing Konoha to seize a key island along the shipping route.
  • Guy reflected that Kirigakure’s forces were stretched thin, but he remained wary because Ao had not appeared near Team 9 or made an obvious move against Hyuga Yuma.
  • Hyuga Yuma reported that Kirigakure was withdrawing from some outposts and said Mitokado Homura had ordered Team 9 to verify whether it was a real retreat or a trap.
  • Hyuga Yuma assigned Team 9 to infiltrate near Mist Island, observe Kirigakure’s fleet and evacuation with the Byakugan, and withdraw without engaging.
  • Guy suspected the mission could give Ao an opportunity to seize Hyuga Yuma’s Byakugan as the forces disengaged, and Team 9 prepared to depart in one hour.

Ch. 98It really was an ambush!

Guy sensed that the fog around Mist Island was affecting the team and warned Hyuga Yuma, who initially continued their reconnaissance. After Guy stopped Yuma from pursuing Ao’s apparently fleeing ship, the Kirigakure vessel turned back to attack, confirming the ambush.

  • Guy’s Sobering Stone detected a persistent abnormality in the fog, and he warned Hyuga Yuma and his teammates that it could signal an ambush.
  • Hyuga Yuma examined the area with his Byakugan but found nothing suspicious, so he ordered the team to continue investigating.
  • Hyuga Yuma spotted Ao, the Hozuki youth, and the mysterious girl aboard a nearby ship, with a tightly wrapped figure inside, and ordered a pursuit when they appeared to flee.
  • Guy argued that pursuit would violate their reconnaissance mission and might lead them into a trap, so Hyuga Yuma ordered the team to withdraw and report.
  • As the team turned to leave, Ao’s ship abruptly turned back and charged at them, and Hyuga Yuma realized they had fallen into an ambush.

Ch. 99Your opponent is me!

Hyuga Yuma and his team were cornered by Ao and the Kirigakure shinobi, who wanted to seize Yuma’s Byakugan. Guy’s improvised signal flare raised hope that reinforcements would come, and the team fought together as Guy confronted Mei Terumi.

  • Hyuga Yuma identified the pursuers’ strength and ordered his team to retreat, but Hozuki Mangetsu used the Water Hydrification Technique to speed their boat closer.
  • Ao offered to spare Yuma and his teammates if Yuma surrendered his Byakugan, but Yuma refused and Ao ordered an attack.
  • Yuma told Guy, Ebisu, and Genma to scatter while he held off Ao, but Guy fired a signal arrow that became a bright emergency flare.
  • Guy revealed that he had enhanced ten ordinary signal arrows and urged Yuma to fight on until reinforcements arrived, so Yuma resolved to escape with his team.
  • Ao and a Kirigakure Chunin attacked Yuma while Hozuki Mangetsu and Mei Terumi boarded the Konoha boat; Guy faced Mei as Ebisu and Genma confronted Mangetsu.

Ch. 100Mei Terumi

Guy chose to face Mei Terumi while Ebisu and Genma fought the Hozuki swordsman, and Mei revealed the terrifying corrosive power of her Lava Release. The battle remained dangerous on all fronts as Hyuga Yuma realized Guy had taken the greatest threat upon himself and the swordsman was Hozuki Mangetsu.

  • Ebisu and Genma trusted Guy’s choice and coordinated their attacks against the Hozuki boy while Hyuga Yuma struggled to hold off Ao.
  • Mei Terumi asked Guy if he knew her, then declared him the first test subject for her new technique.
  • Mei used Lava Release: Dissolving Monster Technique, forcing Guy to retreat as the corrosive sludge ate through the ship’s deck.
  • Ebisu and Genma saw the damage and grew wary of Mei, while Yuma understood that Guy had chosen to protect them from her Kekkei Genkai.
  • The Hozuki boy continued to threaten Ebisu and Genma, and Yuma recognized him as Hozuki Mangetsu, the future wielder of the Seven Ninja Swords.
