Background / History

Goku meets Wei Dong while traveling Snake Way after his death. Wei Dong carries him to King Kai’s Planet due to his superior combat power, but Goku persists through the training and eventually learns both the Kaio-ken and Spirit Bomb. Before returning to Earth, he agrees to spare Vegeta if possible, provided Vegeta does not threaten the planet again. 4

During the Namek conflict, Goku uses the Kaio-ken and prepares an enlarged Spirit Bomb while Wei Dong stalls Frieza. Afterward, Wei Dong explains the existence of Super Saiyan transformations to him. 6 Goku later trains with Wei Dong on Yardrat, where he learns Instant Transmission and works on combining it with the Kamehameha. 7

He also shows mercy when circumstances permit. He agrees to spare Vegeta during the Saiyan invasion if Vegeta does not endanger Earth again, and he supports the decision to end the battle with Majin Buu once Buu has not killed anyone else. 4 23
