Three Wishes

After some time, Young Nail visited the remaining six villages and collected one Dragon Ball from each!

The Namekians didn't like using things that wielded power beyond nature. They revered and respected nature.

The Dragon Balls were merely sacred relics they worshipped, and they rarely used them.

The seven Dragon Balls lay on the ground.

They were different from Earth's Dragon Balls. Earth's were only the size of an adult's fist, while Namek's were as big as basketballs.

These giant Dragon Balls also had a different function from Earth's. Earth's Dragon Balls could grant only one wish, while Namek's could grant three.

However, Namek's Dragon Balls had both an advantage and a disadvantage when it came to reviving people: they could only revive one person at a time, as long as that person hadn't died of natural causes, but they could revive someone an unlimited number of times.

Earth's Dragon Balls also had an advantage and a disadvantage: they could revive many people at once, but each person could only be revived once in their lifetime!

"Come forth, Porunga!"

Young Nail stood beside the gigantic Dragon Balls and chanted the summoning spell in Namekian Language!

The sky filled with dark clouds, and it grew dim, as if the clouds were about to crush the city below.

The thick clouds drifted across the sky, but no rain fell!

Crackle!

Lightning began to flash within the clouds!

The flashes lit up the gloomy sky for an instant, illuminating Kasso and Young Nail's faces!

A gigantic Western dragon's head shot into the sky. Its body coiled and twisted amid flashes of lightning, and moments later, the entire area could see the dragon's enormous form!

The breathtaking sight struck Kasso to the core. This was Shenron!

The Dragon Ball anime revolved around the seven Dragon Balls. Now he was living in that world, and the scene he'd dreamed of was right before his eyes!

Kasso's mouth fell open in excitement. He stood perfectly still, trying to etch this moment into his memory forever!

"Those who have gathered the seven Dragon Balls! State your wishes! You may make three wishes, and any wish can be granted!" Porunga opened his mouth wide and delivered his usual entrance line!

"Go on," Young Nail said, pursing his lips.

Kasso's expression was plain to see. He looked like a country bumpkin who'd never seen the world.

"First, let us Saiyans survive in the vacuum of space!" Kasso said.

Young Nail translated Kasso's words into Namekian Language.

Before coming to Namek, Kasso had already thought about the three wishes he wanted to make.

Everyone knew that Saiyans couldn't survive in space. In the future, when Goku fought Frieza, Frieza would use a Planet Destroyer Bomb to blow up all of Namek!

Frieza could survive in space, but Saiyans couldn't. That meant Goku would surely die—but who could have guessed that Goku would find the spaceship Ginyu had left behind!

That was why this wish was especially important.

"Your first wish has been granted! State your second wish!" The dragon's eyes flashed red before he spoke.

The moment the wish was granted, Kasso felt a flash of clarity within him, as if something about his body had been altered.

It seemed he really would be able to survive in space from now on.

On Planet Vegeta, far away.

Bardock had just returned from a mission. On his way home, his whole body shuddered.

"What was that?"

A strange force had entered his body, and he suddenly felt lighter.

"Was I just imagining things?" Bardock checked his body and found nothing wrong.

He didn't think much of it and continued home.

"Please restore the Saiyans' true home, Planet Sadala!" Young Nail translated the second wish to the dragon!

Kasso knew Planet Vegeta couldn't be saved. When the time came, the Saiyans would urgently need somewhere to live, and their true home, Planet Sadala, would be the best place for them!

"Your second wish has been granted. The location of Planet Sadala has been transmitted to your minds. State your third wish!"

"My third wish is this: when Planet Vegeta explodes in the future, please transport the surviving Saiyans there to the restored Planet Sadala!"

Young Nail opened his mouth and stated the final wish!

"..." The dragon's eyes flashed red, and then he fell silent.

The dragon said calmly, "This wish cannot be granted!"

Kasso was stunned by the dragon's reply, and so was Young Nail. The two boys stood rooted to the spot.

Even the dragon couldn't grant this wish?

"Destroying Planet Vegeta and exterminating the Saiyans was ordered by Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction. This wish cannot be granted."

As he spoke, a few drops of sweat ran down the dragon's face. He continued, "Please state your third wish."

Kasso had considered this possibility. As the most powerful deity in Universe 7, the God of Destruction's orders might be beyond an ordinary dragon's power to defy. Perhaps only Super Shenron could ignore the authority of such a deity.

It seemed there really was no way to grant the wish!

Was his entire race truly doomed?

As Kasso fell silent, the dragon spoke again. "Please state your third wish!"

The dragon sounded a little impatient. If they didn't make a wish soon, he would probably disappear.

Young Nail glanced at Kasso.

"Create a plot of land on Planet Sadala where Senzu Beans can grow to maturity instantly," Kasso said, choosing a wish at random.

Young Nail translated it.

"Your wish has been granted!"

Whoosh!

The seven Dragon Balls glowed gold where they lay, and the dragon in the sky suddenly vanished. After the golden light faded, the Dragon Balls on the ground had turned into round stones.

The dragon was gone. Kasso stood there, frowning.

Would Planet Vegeta and the Saiyans really be destroyed?

Kasso thought it over, then realized something didn't quite add up.

That was it!

Beerus had only ordered Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta and exterminate the Saiyans. He hadn't said anything about whether Frieza had to wipe them all out.

Waveriders like Kakarot and Vegeta were proof enough!

The dragon couldn't defy the God of Destruction because of the deity's authority. But if it couldn't grant the wish, couldn't Kasso still save Bardock and the others through his own efforts?

Kasso understood. It really seemed possible.

At that thought, he let out a sigh of relief.

He turned to the little boy beside him.

"Young Nail, I'm leaving. Please say goodbye to the Grand Elder for me. I'll keep my promise. The Namekians will always be good friends of mine, Kasso!"

Was he leaving?

Young Nail felt a slight stir in his heart. After spending some time with Kasso, he could tell that the boy was different from the rest.

The three wishes had made him realize Kasso had come to Namek to save his people.

Young Nail had come to respect Kasso. Though he was only a child, with his people on the verge of extinction, he hadn't chosen to run away. Instead, he'd done everything he could to save them. Someone like that deserved respect!

Young Nail was much the same. In the future battle on Namek, he would choose to fuse with Piccolo, giving up control of his own body so that they could defeat Frieza and save their people.

Similar actions often inspired a sense of kinship, even though the battle on Namek had yet to happen!

"Okay. Good luck in the battles ahead. If you can't beat your enemies, run away as soon as you can!"

Young Nail patted Kasso's narrow shoulder!

Kasso shook his head. He hadn't expected Nail to have this side to him.

But when Young Nail mentioned running away, Kasso agreed. With his current strength, facing Frieza would be like an ant trying to topple an elephant. He had no chance of winning.

Honestly, even comparing himself to an ant felt like giving himself too much credit.

"Goodbye!"

With that, Kasso shot straight into the sky.

Young Nail watched the tiny white dot overhead, wondering what was going through his mind.

Then he flew back toward the Grand Elder's home.
