Background / History

Vegeta was born with a combat power of 1,000 and was regarded as the Saiyan race's exceptional prince. King Vegeta sent him to Frieza's side as a hostage while Raditz was assigned to accompany him. 101 102

After Planet Vegeta's destruction, Vegeta doubted Frieza's claim that a meteor caused the disaster. He came to suspect Frieza had exterminated the Saiyans and believed it was his duty, as prince, to lead any surviving members of the race. 101

When Vegeta reached Planet Sadala, he attempted to reclaim authority over the survivors. Bardock refused to recognize him as their leader, and Chris defeated him decisively. The encounter shattered Vegeta's belief that he stood above low-class Saiyans, but also reignited his determination to surpass them. 102 103 104

Vegeta witnessed Frieza and King Cold's attack on Planet Sadala from among the Saiyans. Learning that a Super Saiyan existed—and seeing Kasso defeat King Cold—gave him a new goal: achieve the legendary transformation and eventually exceed Kasso. 105 109 111

He was placed in Garis Squad with Raditz and initially worked as a receptionist because he lacked the minimum 100,000 combat power required for regular missions. His rapid growth earned Garis' trust, allowing him to accompany Raditz on a mission to destroy the Spirit Tree. 121 122
