Goku and Trunks were just about to begin their fight when Vegeta arrived. Seeing them preparing to battle, Vegeta shouted at Goku, "Kakarot, you're too much! You got there before me again. After you fight this guy, I want to fight him too."
Trunks looked troubled when he heard that. He really could not bring himself to fight his own father.
Seeing Trunks's conflicted expression, Vegeta shouted at him, "What, do you think Prince Vegeta isn't worthy of fighting you?"
Trunks hurriedly waved his hands. "No, no, that's not what I mean. I just... just..."
"Just what? Spit it out!" Vegeta urged.
Gaino spoke up then, saying to Vegeta, "Vegeta, let's wait until he finishes sparring with Goku. If he loses to Goku, there'll be no need for him to fight you, right?"
Gaino's words flattered Vegeta immensely and greatly satisfied his vanity. What Gaino meant was that if Trunks was no match for Kakarot, then he was no match for Vegeta either, which meant Vegeta's strength was on par with Kakarot's.
Vegeta pretended to ponder for a moment before saying, "If this brat loses to Kakarot, there really will be no need for him to fight me. If he can't even beat Kakarot, then there's no point in fighting me."
Seeing that Vegeta had no objections, Gaino said to Goku and Trunks, "Get ready. The battle begins now."
At Gaino's command, Trunks instantly flashed to Goku's side and drove out an elbow. Goku reacted just as swiftly, tilting his body slightly to the side to evade Trunks's attack. Seeing Goku dodge his elbow strike, Trunks followed up with a kick toward Goku's face.
Gaino nodded approvingly at Trunks's attack. He had taught Trunks that one had to treat an opponent like an enemy. There could be no unnecessary movements
