Everyone had been looking forward to an exciting match between Broly and Bardock, but Gaino had called it off, and no one objected.
The others didn't know Broly couldn't control the ki inside him, so they felt no sense of danger. If Broly lost himself to madness, he wouldn't know friend from foe. His mind would be consumed by bloodlust, and only constant killing could release the power within him.
When Gaino saw Broly's eyes turn white, he knew Broly was no longer in control. He stopped Broly's attack in time; otherwise, Broly might have killed Bardock.
Seeing Gaino pick Broly up, Bardock felt deeply dejected. Gaino noticed his expression and said, "Once Broly can control the ki inside him, I'll let you have a match."
At those words, Bardock's face lit up. "All right. I'll look forward to that day."

Gaino carried Broly toward his castle, with Laiya following behind. Once the two of them had entered the castle, everyone else dispersed and returned to their rooms to train.
Gaino laid Broly on his bed and said to Laiya, "Laiya, it looks like Broly will need more time to control his ki. I was too impatient."
Laiya said to Gaino, "Brother Gaino, Broly is still young. It's understandable that he can't control his ki yet, so don't be too impatient. Remember, we learned on Earth how to guide the flow of ki inside our bodies. You could try that method."
"Right!" Gaino slapped his thigh. "How could I have forgotten? Back on Earth, the ki inside our bodies was just as chaotic. Master Roshi taught us how to guide it."
"After training for a while, the ki in our bodies began to flow smoothly, and we learned to fight properly. I can teach Broly the same training method—not just Broly, but all the Saiyans."
"Exactly! We can teach all the Saiyans how to cultivate their ki."
Gaino said, "Laiya, I never realized how clever you were! How did I not notice before?"

While Gaino and Laiya were talking, Broly woke up. He opened his eyes, clutched his head, and said, "Ah, my head hurts so much!" He shook it vigorously.
"You're awake, Broly."
Broly turned toward Gaino's voice and asked, "Brother Gaino, did I lose control again?"
"Yes, you lost control again, but you didn't do anything too serious. I stopped you in time."
"Does that mean I can't control the ki inside me?" Broly asked, beginning to lose confidence.
"Why wouldn't you be able to? Starting today, I'll teach you how to train and control your ki."
"Really? That's great! Let's start right away, Brother Gaino."
Gaino turned to Laiya and said, "Laiya, tell everyone to come out and start their new training."
"All right, I'll go now." The moment Laiya finished speaking, she was gone.
"Get up. You can't just lie around in my bed." Gaino headed for the door.
Broly hurried out of bed and chased after him.
Gaino left his castle and went to the Training Ground. He said to all the Saiyans, "Today, I'm going to teach you how to cultivate your ki."
"You all have ki inside you, but feel it for yourselves. Isn't the ki in your bodies chaotic?"
Everyone checked, and Bum said, "That's right. We have immense ki inside us, but it has no pattern at all. It's completely chaotic."
"Exactly. When your ki is too chaotic, you waste energy quickly in battle. We Saiyans all favor brute force, so when we meet an enemy, we fire off a few blasts and bombard everything indiscriminately. There's no point in fighting that way."

Gaino watched Broly. The violent ki inside him was gradually settling down.
If you want what you're striving for, you have to put in the effort. Success doesn't come overnight.
One day, three months later.
All the Saiyans stood on the Training Ground. They looked like ordinary people, their ki concealed within them. At a glance, someone might have wondered if the Saiyans had changed their nature—if they had truly become different. The once-aggressive, hot-tempered Saiyans seemed to have lost their former edge.
Gaino was satisfied with the results. It seemed everyone had gained a new understanding of ki.
Bardock and Broly, in particular, had concealed their ki to the utmost. If measured with a Scouter, their battle power would register as zero—not even as high as a common battle grunt. But anyone who thought that would be sorely mistaken.
Gaino said to them, "It looks like you've all mastered the ki inside you. Next comes combat training."
At the mention of combat training, Broly and Bardock's eyes lit up.
"Everyone knows how to fight, but your techniques are too crude. Against a skilled opponent, your moves are full of openings, and one strike could defeat you."
