Background / History
Rescue and Adoption
Following the Battle of the Three Gods, the Demon Empress seeks revenge for her husband by attempting to devour the wounded leader of the Demon Soul Great White Shark clan. He self-destructs rather than become her nourishment, leaving her critically injured and drifting near the coast. Lan Fozi’s absence from the hunt is her only consolation 63.
A young boy jumps into the sea and deliberately cuts his arm on her teeth, feeding her emerald-gold blood. It instantly restores her body, allowing her to assume human form. She names him Ming Yue, teaches him to call her “Mother,” and invites him to live with her and Lan Fozi 63 64.
Over the following six years, mother and daughter teach Ming Yue what they know. His blood becomes a regular aid after her hunts, enabling her to assimilate quantities of energy that would otherwise overwhelm her 64.
Confrontation with the Shrek Seven Devils
While hunting a 130,000-year-old Demon Soul Great White Shark near Sea God Island, the Demon Empress is attacked by Tang San. An emerald-gold abdominal pattern activates, returning her to the island where Ming Yue and Lan Fozi are waiting 64.
Tang San and the other Shrek Seven Devils suppress the family with divine pressure. When Tang San attacks Ming Yue directly, the Demon Empress intercepts his trident and urges the boy to escape with Lan Fozi. Ming Yue’s Pharmacist’s Blessing subsequently activates, restoring her and transforming the seven gods into ginkgo trees 64 65.
She consumes five fruits from those trees, while Lan Fozi receives two. Mother and daughter then leave the unconscious Ming Yue on the island to pursue greater strength, believing their separation will lead to a better reunion. Ming Yue awakens alone and begins searching for them 65.
Seclusion and the Holy Spirit Cult
After approximately ten thousand years, the Demon Empress emerges from seclusion in an undersea palace and discovers that Sea God Island now lies above it. Having achieved a breakthrough, she postpones her search for Ming Yue, gathers an army of sea soul beasts, and attacks the island with Lan Fozi. Its Seven Sacred Pillars and senior defenders are devoured as nourishment 71.
The Holy Spirit Cult’s leader approaches her and offers the position of Supreme Leader: unrestricted access to cult resources, with intervention required only for major events. Learning that the Sun Moon and Douluo continents have joined—and recognizing the implications for finding Ming Yue—she accepts 71.
Before she reaches the cult, its sect master and several officials dissolve into emerald-gold divine blood and fly away. Recognizing Ming Yue’s influence, she gives chase, but returns too late to meet him. After Ye Xishui and Feng Ling confirm that he is safe, she takes full control of the remaining cult 72.
Reunion and Service to Abundance
The resurrection of the Undying Jianmu Tree alerts the Demon Empress and Lan Fozi to Ming Yue’s whereabouts. She orders the cult’s elders and Saintess to assemble with their strongest soul guidance devices and leads them to the tree 74 76.
There, she confronts Qian Renxue and the Dew-Bearing Celestials, asking how her son became their “Lord Medicine King.” Her claim to be his mother provokes a hostile encirclement, but Ming Yue’s reunion with the gathered women prevents a battle 76 77.
The Demon Empress reprimands Ming Yue and asks for an explanation. His response—the manifestation of the Four Great Abundance Miracles—leaves her speechless rather than eliciting the affectionate apology she expected 77.
Later, she accompanies Gu Yuena against the Goddess of Life and Goddess of Goodness, accepting a supporting role so as not to interfere with Gu Yuena’s revenge. After their defeat, she collects their super artifacts, accompanies the captives to Ming Yue, and orders the Abundant Mysterious Deer around Jianmu to withdraw 82 83.
Appearance
- Whale form: A massive whale with unusual forehead patterns and sharp teeth 63.
- Human form: An alluring woman with dark eyebrows, starry eyes, a graceful neck, and delicate hands 63 64.
- Abundance marking: An emerald-gold pattern appears on her lower abdomen after exposure to Ming Yue’s blood; it activates during danger and when the god-derived fruits approach 64 65.
Personality
The Demon Empress is openly affectionate toward Ming Yue, praising him, embracing him, and teaching him alongside Lan Fozi. Her protectiveness extends to taking Tang San’s trident strike in his place. Even after he becomes the Medicine King, she continues to address him as her child and expects him to explain himself to her 64 77.
Toward enemies, she is cold, vengeful, and predatory. She pursues revenge for her husband, treats defeated opponents as nourishment, and readily sees through the Holy Spirit Cult leader’s claim that he merely wishes to help. Her regal manner softens around Ming Yue, though she and Lan Fozi remain comparatively reserved in public 63 71 81 82.
