Jeanne's appearance left Bayonetta deeply puzzled, because according to Salomon, only the last Witch and the last member of the Sage Clan remained, continuing a conflict that had spanned centuries. Yet Jeanne had fought her in the same way, forcing the witch to question the accuracy of what Salomon had told her.

But Salomon had gone to Kamar-Taj to investigate the lipstick that had lain sleeping in the coffin alongside her. Surely when he returned, he would bring back more clues. Bayonetta intended to have a proper talk with Salomon then and ask why another Witch like her had appeared.

For now, she needed to find Rodin and get some repairs done.

In the mountains roughly 105 kilometers from Wigrid lay a rift. The steep rocky slopes on either side were nearly vertical, as though someone had smashed the land apart with a massive hammer before time slowly carved it into its present form. Thick fog shrouded the place all year round. There was not a trace of vegetation on either the peaks or the slopes—not even the usual moss or clumps of bamboo grass. Perhaps because of the tremendous altitude, the leaden clouds hung close overhead. Dark clouds rubbed together here, and lightning often struck straight down into this exposed rift.

On the closest mountainsides flanking the rift stood two enormous stone statues, their backs turned toward one another. Their carvings were similar: both wore shapeless long robes and hoods, leaned upon greatswords, and spread their wings behind them to support a platform.

The statue on the left was lighter in color, closer to marble white, with the symbol of the sun carved into the clothing around its neck. It tilted its face toward the left, its eyes drooping at the corners and its expression full of sorrow. The
