Chapter 16: Special Edition Luck Potion
"Lady Tsunade." Shizune lowered her head in shame at such an obviously exploitative statement aimed at the Hokage.
"Keep opening them. There are still four left." Tsunade, however, did not care in the slightest.
When her gambling addiction was at its worst, she had done things even more shameless than this.
She would open some miraculous products, exchange them with Konoha for money, and then continue opening chests.
Until those old fossils finally understood the value of these jars.
By gathering the strength of the entire village, they would definitely be able to resurrect Nawaki.
That was Tsunade's current plan.
She had to resurrect Nawaki.
Shen Mo could faintly sense Tsunade's determination. Naturally, that was a good thing for him.
Then I'll give them some slightly better things.
Shizune continued opening the next four jars.
A Body-Tempering Pill, a cluster of experience from medical surgery in the form of an Experience Aura, a medicinal herb from an immortal-cultivation world, and a small bottle of potion capable of bringing good luck.
The last one was the key.
"A potion that brings good luck?" Tsunade stared at the last small bottle of liquid.
"Miss Shizune, you may be someone protected by the Omniscient and Omnipotent Merchant Guild." Shen Mo spoke with a sigh. "All five Level 2 Chests contained good products, especially this one—the Special Edition Luck Potion. After drinking it, the user's luck will be enhanced for the next hour!"
This was not the Luck Potion from the Harry Potter world.
It was a custom-made version created by Shen Mo.
Its value was still controlled at the minimum price of six thousand Trading Points.
However, its miraculous effects were far greater. After all, the original potion's good luck was merely an illusion produced by heightened perception.
"It can even control luck?"
Tsunade stared at the transparent potion in the small bottle, seeming somewhat unable to believe it.
Luck was such an ethereal thing.
It was even more miraculous than the Cross of Courage.
She seemed to have thought of something and suddenly asked, "Can it be used for Opening Chests?"
Opening chests was a gamble in itself. Since this was a luck potion, perhaps—
"No, it has no effect on Opening Chests." Shen Mo shattered Tsunade's hopes with a mysterious smile. "Only the jars are special. No matter what exists or what methods are used, nothing can affect the result of Opening Chests. So, Miss Tsunade, you don't need to worry about your gambling luck. It's best to open them yourself, because it represents a change in the Chest Opener's destiny."
Opening Chests could not be affected.
After all, Shen Mo had put everything inside himself.
But he certainly could not say that out loud.
I'll just bluff her a little.
"A change in destiny?" Tsunade repeated in a low voice.
"That's right." Shen Mo nodded and continued his leisurely deception. "The items inside the jars don't belong to this world. You were never supposed to come into contact with them according to your original destiny. The moment they appeared, the gears of fate had already begun to turn. So, Miss Tsunade, your special luck won't work in front of them."
Tsunade only turned her losing luck into winning luck after losing someone important.
It had been that way when the Third Hokage died.
It had also been that way when Jiraiya died.
"How mysterious." Tsunade was silent for a moment before shaking her head. She looked at Shen Mo with her arms folded across her chest. "In any case, I'm out of money."
"I can tell." Shen Mo sounded rather helpless.
In his heart, Tsunade was a huge potential customer. Who would have thought she would be this poor?
Can't she find some way to get more money?
Gurgle—
Suddenly, a series of noises rang out.
Shen Mo's eyes widened slightly as he looked at Tsunade in surprise.
The sound had come from her stomach.
Even Tsunade's thick skin could not stop her face from flushing under such circumstances, though she stubbornly maintained her composure.
Then—
Gurgle—
Another series of noises rang out, this time from Shizune's direction.
"You two..." Shen Mo's expression immediately turned strange. "Don't tell me you haven't eaten this whole time."
"Because Lady Tsunade squeezed out every last bit of money."
Shizune hugged the pet piglet, lowered her head, and covered her stomach. She looked utterly pitiful.
"Although I'm very grateful that you're taking such good care of my business, but..." Shen Mo covered his forehead, looking speechless. Finally, he said helplessly, "Since you're so enthusiastic about the jars, how about this? I'll treat you to dinner tonight. We'll find a place in Konoha."
It was not because he had suddenly become charitable.
It was simply that establishing a good relationship with Tsunade to some extent would also give him a natural favorable impression among certain people in Konoha.
That would make it easier to start doing business.
Besides, no matter how the plot changed, Tsunade was basically the only candidate for Fifth Hokage. By then, the resources in her hands would be considerable.
While making money, Shen Mo did not mind getting along pleasantly with some of his customers.
"Oh, how could I let you do that?" Tsunade's eyes lit up as she slapped Shen Mo on the shoulder, then spoke at lightning speed. "I know a barbecue restaurant..."
"We're eating ramen." Shen Mo interrupted her directly. "I once heard a customer mention Ichiraku Ramen. It seems to be quite famous, so we'll go there."
Now that he had come to Konoha, how could he not visit Ichiraku Ramen?
And besides...
Perhaps I can use this opportunity to make another deal.
"Tch, stingy." Tsunade was no longer as happy.
Her eyelids drooped, and she looked a little sullen.
The sight made Shen Mo's eye twitch.
You're already that old. Even if you look young, even if you're beautiful, and even if you have such a generous figure, you can't really act cute like a little girl.
"Ichiraku it is, then. Shizune, let's go. We'll eat back every coin we spent."
"Lady Tsunade, there's no way we can eat it all back."
"Stop nagging and eat as much as you can!"
"..."
Speechless, Shen Mo followed the two of them outside.
What appeared before him was a prosperous town.
The two- and three-story buildings, spacious roads, neat paving stones, and crowds of people were even more prosperous than he had imagined a "village" could be. It could already be considered a fairly large town, and the streets on both sides were decorated with the distinctive style of this world.
He felt as though he had stepped into a perfect live-action movie.
So this is Konoha...
Shen Mo looked around with fresh curiosity.
Along the way, people respectfully saluted Tsunade. Her popularity here was obvious. Tsunade, however, barely returned their greetings, instead watching Shen Mo from the corner of her eye.
"A merchant like you should have seen even more magnificent cities, right?" she asked as if making casual conversation.
"Magnificent?" Shen Mo shook his head. "If we're talking about grandeur, then compared to the cities I've visited, this place is like a shabby village in some remote corner. But what I value isn't so-called grandeur or splendor. It's the people here."
"Oh?" Tsunade seemed interested. She turned her head to look at him. "What's different about the people?"
