Background / History

Tsunade was away from Konoha following the Third Shinobi World War, drinking and gambling while burdened by the deaths of Nawaki and Dan Katō. Her grief left her resentful of both herself and the village, particularly the expectation that young ninja must die in war. 1 14

After meeting the merchant Shen Mo through Shizune, Tsunade became his first customer. The prospect that Level 3 Chests could contain resurrection treasures restored her drive, giving her a path to pursue the return of Nawaki and Dan. 5 7 17

She returned to Konoha after years away, where she was recognized as a Legendary Sannin, war hero, granddaughter of the First Hokage, and exceptional medical ninja. She reported Shen Mo and his goods to Hiruzen Sarutobi, then chose to remain involved in the village’s future. 13

Tsunade later gained a Resurrection Coin capable of reviving Nawaki, but postponed using it while Konoha faced instability and war. Rather than prioritize her personal wish, she committed herself to strengthening and reforming the village Nawaki would return to. 144 145
