Background / History

Celestial Dragon upbringing

Doflamingo was born into the Donquixote Family, a Celestial Dragon household that had lived in Mary Geoise for generations. His father, Donquixote Homing, renounced their privileges and relocated the family to live as commoners. Rather than accepting them, ordinary people persecuted Doflamingo, Homing, and Doflamingo's younger brother Rosinante for the crimes of the Celestial Dragons. Their mother later died from illness amid the family's poverty. 178

At age ten, Doflamingo blamed Homing for their suffering and shot him despite Rosinante's pleas. He returned to Mary Geoise carrying his father's head, only for the Celestial Dragons to reject him as the child of a traitorous family. Cast out again, Doflamingo vowed to overturn the world ruled by the Celestial Dragons. 178

After leaving Mary Geoise, he met Trebol, Pica, Diamante, and Vergo. The four recognized his potential for Conqueror's Haki and gave him the Ito Ito no Mi, establishing the foundation of the Donquixote Family. 178

Rise as JOKER

Doflamingo built the Donquixote Family into an underworld force while using its members as tightly controlled assets. He dispatched Vergo, the first Corazon, to infiltrate the Marines, while Rosinante became the second Corazon and Trafalgar Law was brought into the family. 178 235

Seeking the World Government's recognition as a Shichibukai, Doflamingo arranged for Vergo to collect evidence of cooperation between Celestial Dragons and pirates in an assassination plot against Linley Barek. He intended to use the resulting scandal as leverage against the World Government. 33 34

Conflict with Linley Barek

After Linley declared war on the Celestial Dragons, Doflamingo initially regarded him as an amusing fool and ordered Trebol to monitor him. As Linley's actions escalated, however, Doflamingo reassessed him as a dangerous, strategically capable opponent whose objective was a direct battle with him. 11 179

Doflamingo used the Golden Cloud as bait to draw Linley's group toward Punk Hazard, working with World Government agents and Caesar Clown while preparing layered defenses. He personally intervened when his subordinates could not delay Linley's approach. 186 188 195

After retreating to Dressrosa, Doflamingo regrouped his remaining combatants, arranged emergency care for Sugar and Trebol, and assigned Diamante, Pica, and his thread clones to divide Linley's allies. 232

He later attempted to form a pirate alliance with Crocodile, but their meeting immediately devolved into battle. The wider conflict ended with Vice Admiral Tsuru's arrival and the arrest of Doflamingo and the Donquixote Family. 235 242

Doflamingo's plan to become a Shichibukai was thwarted; eight years later, he remained imprisoned in Impel Down, carrying numerous crimes assigned to him by the World Government. 244
