Background

The Flying Cloud Gang rose to prominence in recent years as a formidable force around Longshan City. Its reputation rested on its numerous First Refinement martial artists and a leader believed to be at least Second Refinement 2.

Its feud with the Su family began when Su Yu intervened as the gang's Young Master was mistreating a commoner. The gang captured Su Yu and forced him to reveal the location of a Blood Ginseng in Black Swamp Mountain as compensation. While leading its men to verify the herb, Su Yu escaped, was pursued into the mountain, and fell into a poisonous swamp. Gang members assumed him dead after waiting outside the swamp for hours 13 14.

Su Yu later resurfaced and attacked one of the gang's branches, killing more than a dozen members, including a hall master. In retaliation, the gang targeted his family, dispatching disciples against Su Hao and later seeking to capture him as bait for Su Yu 2 11.

Conflict with the Su Family

Attempted assassination of Su Hao

After Su Yu's disappearance and alleged attack on the gang, Su Hao was ambushed by people posing as hunters in Woniu Mountain. The attackers' affiliation was initially uncertain, but the Flying Cloud Gang was suspected due to Su Yu's conflict with them 1 2.

The gang avoided openly attacking Su Hao inside Su Family Fort, where the Su family could protect him. Instead, it waited until he entered Black Swamp Mountain alone 2 11.

Black Swamp Mountain confrontation

Kuang Fei, Zhang Wenxuan, and an unnamed obese First Refinement martial artist encountered Su Hao while attempting to obtain the Blood Ginseng. Kuang Fei identified him as Su Yu's son and planned to capture him to force Su Yu to reveal himself 11.

All three were defeated by Su Hao. Zhang Wenxuan revealed the circumstances of Su Yu's capture, escape, presumed death, and later assault on the gang before Su Hao executed him. Kuang Fei and the obese martial artist were also killed 13 14.

Extortion of Su Family Fort

After the deaths of its Black Swamp Mountain members, the gang escalated its pressure on the Su family. It ambushed a Su family caravan, seized its goods and several clansmen, and demanded that Clan Head Su Yun personally deliver one thousand taels of silver as ransom 15.

The gang also placed a disguised martial artist in Su Family Fort to observe Su Hao, suggesting continued surveillance and preparation for further action 15.
