"Ah!"
A long, satisfied sigh drifted from Tsunade's tent as the sun climbed high into the sky.
Bai Lin stretched his body and sat up from the bedding, rubbing his sleepy eyes with a contented smile on his lips. "It's been so long since I've had such a sound sleep. This is truly comfortable."
Ever since leaving Konoha, it had been nothing but sleeping in the open or rushing on the road. Being able to sleep peacefully without worrying about danger like this was nothing short of a luxury.
He stretched, his bones emitting a soft "crack," and most of the fatigue in his body dissipated.
"Eh? Where did they go?"
Just as he was about to get up to wash, his gaze swept across the tent, only to find that Kushina, Mikoto, and the tent's owner, Tsunade—who should have been sleeping in the adjacent bunks—were nowhere to be seen.
As for why Bai Lin was sleeping in Tsunade's tent, it was because he had originally been assigned to a tent with Minato Namikaze, Nawaki, and Might Duy.
Bai Lin didn't have the habit of sleeping in the same room as men; after all, everyone was a ninja in the prime of their youth, and he was terrified of any "accidents" happening to his body.
In his previous life, he was a Sichuanese man, and he was particularly cautious about things like "fencing."
It was also because he hadn't seen Kushina for so long that he wanted to chat with her more. The three of them had sat in the tent chattering until midnight. Tsunade couldn't hold out and fell asleep first, so Bai Lin cheekily chased Kushina over to Mikoto's bunk, occupied her spot, and slept soundly through the night.
After a simple wash, Bai Lin asked a ninja at the camp entrance and learned that the three women had gone to the riverbank near the camp.
As a camp situated on the battlefield, they generally chose to station themselves near a water source for easy access.
Bai Lin paced around, observing the camp. There were quite a few ninjas present—at least a hundred in sight—with tents arranged in an orderly fashion, leaving spacious paths in between.
Including the ninjas patrolling outside the camp, there must be at least a thousand Konoha ninjas on the Land of Rain battlefield, Bai Lin mused to himself.
As expected of Konoha. And this is just the camp on the Land of Rain front; Hatake Sakumo's side, dealing with the main force of Sunagakure, should have even more people.
Walking along the path at the edge of the camp, he soon heard many voices; quite a few ninjas on shift breaks were also training.
"Brother Lin!"
A crisp call rang out. Kushina, who was practicing in the clearing by the river, spotted him at once. She immediately stopped and waved at him excitedly, her red hair like a small, burning flame under the sunlight.
"You really are here." Bai Lin walked over with a smile, his footsteps making a faint sound on the grass.
"Lin, you're awake." Mikoto also turned back, offering him a gentle smile with a soft glint in her eyes. "You slept for so long; you must have been exhausted."
"Stinky brat!" Tsunade curled her lip, expressing her dissatisfaction.
"Brother Lin, look!" Kushina hurried to Bai Lin, excitedly extending her right hand. A mass of swirling blue Chakra condensed in her palm, spinning at high speed to form a vortex and emitting a faint "humming" sound. "I've already mastered the Rasengan, the ninjutsu you taught me!"
The blue Chakra sphere rotated steadily in her palm, its light soft yet carrying a destructive power that could not be underestimated.
"I haven't been slacking off even though we haven't seen each other for over ten days." Kushina tilted her small face up, her eyes filled with a longing for approval.
Bai Lin raised an eyebrow at the sight. He hadn't expected Kushina to master this ninjutsu so quickly; it seemed she really hadn't been lazy.
"Kushina, you're amazing! I give you a thumbs up!" He smiled and held up his thumb, his tone full of sincere praise. "Not bad at all! You actually learned it! You're even faster than I anticipated."
The Rasengan was an A-rank ninjutsu. While it looked simple, it was actually quite difficult to master.
In the anime, Lightning Style: Chidori was Kakashi's signature move, and it was highly likely that it was inspired by Minato Namikaze's Rasengan.
Bai Lin possessed the Lightning Style: Chidori technique and understood its basic principles. Combined with the training method Jiraiya used to teach Naruto in the anime, and Bai Lin's own modern understanding, he had managed to optimize it somewhat.
Kushina also had a massive amount of Chakra and plenty of time to train every day, so it was reasonable that she had succeeded.
"That goes without saying!" Kushina lifted her chin triumphantly, her face full of pride. "I practiced for a long time every day! From now on, I'll be the one to protect Brother Lin!"
"Boss! I've also learned the Rasengan you taught me!"
Just then, a vibrant voice rang out.
Minato Namikaze was also training nearby. Seeing Bai Lin, he hurried over, followed by Jiraiya.
He wore a sunny smile, and a blue Rasengan was also condensed in his right palm. It was spinning even faster than Kushina's, and the Chakra sphere was even more refined.
Jiraiya followed behind, arms crossed, a smug smile on his face. "Bai Lin, I didn't expect the ninjutsu you taught to be so interesting. This kid Minato has good intuition; he learned it in just a few days."
"Boss!"
"Bai Lin!"
He hadn't expected Might Duy and Nawaki to be here as well.
"Sissy, when did you learn it?"
"What status or position do you think you have to be worthy of using the ninjutsu Brother Lin taught me?"
Kushina instantly bristled. She dissipated the Rasengan in her hand and glared at Minato Namikaze with her hands on her hips, her red hair transforming like octopus tentacles, which was quite shocking.
Just a moment ago, she was beaming with pride because of Bai Lin's praise, and suddenly Minato Namikaze ran over to say—
Bah!
He ran over to say he had also learned the Rasengan that Bai Lin taught her. If this wasn't cheating, what was?
The smile on Minato Namikaze's face stiffened. Clearly, he hadn't expected such a strong reaction from Kushina. He scratched his head, his tone remaining gentle. "Th-this... this was taught to me by Boss after he left the village. He felt I was better suited for this ninjutsu."
"Is that so?"
Kushina immediately turned her gaze toward Bai Lin, as if asking if it were true.
Why is Kushina so angry?
It's just a ninjutsu, isn't it? I don't recall saying anything suggestive when I taught it to her.
Bai Lin felt uneasy under Kushina's intense, direct gaze and explained, "I taught the Rasengan to Minato. Is there a problem with that, Kushina?"
"There is a problem! A huge problem!"
Kushina lunged at Bai Lin fiercely, grabbing his arm with both hands and shaking it violently, with enough force to nearly shake him apart. "How could you just teach the ninjutsu you taught me to someone else!"
"But clearly..."
When she first heard that Bai Lin was giving her the Rasengan, a ninjutsu he had created himself, she had assumed it was taught only to her.
A self-created ninjutsu is comparable to a clan secret technique; unless it is for close relatives or direct disciples, it is never easily passed on to outsiders.
Especially with a high-power ninjutsu like the Rasengan, she had viewed it as Bai Lin treating her as one of his own.
This was the first gift Bai Lin had given her, and Kushina had even renamed the Rasengan the "Lin and Nai, Spiral of Love."
She had imagined shouting that name aloud whenever she encountered enemies, letting everyone know it was a ninjutsu exclusive to her and Brother Lin, but now...
Bai Lin was completely baffled and could only endure it in silence, enduring the shattering, the mountain-wailing darkness.
Just then... (Skipped a beat, wrote down the lyrics, they sounded quite nice.)
The more Kushina thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. Tears fell like beads from a broken string, yet the strength with which she held onto Bai Lin's arm did not diminish in the slightest. "This was the first gift you ever gave me!"
"I listened to you and practiced hard every single day, terrified of failing to live up to your intentions, and yet you turned around and taught it to someone else! You don't care about me at all, you don't care about this gift!"
"Ugh!" Bai Lin was shocked.
When did I ever say this was a gift for you?
I only taught it to you because I saw your strength was too poor, and you needed a powerful technique to make use of your Uzumaki Clan chakra reserves, alright?
Bai Lin finally understood what Kushina meant; she had mistaken the Rasengan he taught her for a gift, which was why she was so furious.
