History

Third Shinobi World War

During the operation, Jiraiya was pursued by Pakura’s Scorch Release attacks. Shisui placed Pakura under genjutsu and captured her, after which Jiraiya and Shisui withdrew toward the Land of Fire 23. When Sunagakure forces caught up, Jiraiya volunteered to remain behind so Shisui could escape with Pakura; Shisui instead stayed behind and awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan during the ensuing battle 24.

Akatsuki Investigation and the One-Tail Operation

Three years after the Nine-Tails Incident, Jiraiya attended Hiruzen’s clan-head meeting with intelligence concerning rogue ninja in black robes marked by red clouds. Konoha approved an investigation plan in which Jiraiya would lead elite shinobi to locate or capture the group 59.
