Warwick's heart sank. Without even breaking into a run, he arrived instantly beside the soldier. The crowd pushing and shoving around him was knocked aside by the violent battle aura radiating from Warwick before they could even touch him.
Warwick grabbed the soldier by the lapels of his armor. "Calm down and speak clearly! Besides the northern wall, have any other sightings of magical beasts been reported?"
"N-no, nothing else..." The soldier panicked, straightening his cap which had been knocked askew by the crowd, and said with trembling fear, "J-just the northern wall, there are magical beasts—at least, at least one hundred thousand of them!"
"All warriors, assemble at the northern wall! Prepare to engage!" Warwick roared, his voice drowning out everything else and echoing across the entire city of Morton. Then, his body blurred into a series of afterimages as he shot toward the northern wall.
The soldiers who received the order immediately formed up and charged toward the wall. Meanwhile, some of the quicker-witted citizens rushed to the gallows and cut the four men down. The executioner behind the gallows watched this scene and kept shouting threats, but with thousands of people gathered there, the principle of "the law cannot punish the masses" applied, and everyone simply ignored him.
The warning bells rang incessantly throughout the main city of Morton. When Warwick arrived atop the wall, his eyes couldn't help but shrink.
Five hundred meters outside the northern wall, a black, surging ocean of Zergling stretched out. The key point was that these were magical beasts—magical beasts were, by definition, the antithesis of discipline and order. Yet, before Warwick's eyes, every Zergling moved in perfect unison. They stepped with their left feet, then their right, then their left... Of course, he was confident his own troops could perform a perfect parade march, but... these Zergling were running.
"Is... is this still a magical beast?" The adjutant to Warwick's right stared at the scene, dumbfounded.
Warwick snorted coldly. "Shut your mouth. Do not let me see such behavior that damages the image of the Third Legion again. Magical beasts are, in the end, just magical beasts. No matter how well-trained they are, without siege equipment, even if there are one hundred thousand or two hundred thousand—even a million—they will only serve as merit for our Third Legion!"
Standing once again before this fifteen-meter-high wall, Ye Luo's mood was completely different. In front of a wall five stories high, any attacking force without siege equipment would feel small and powerless.
In ten days, under the brutal slaughter carried out by Ye Meng, the Iron-Pincer Green-Spine Shrimp race had been completely wiped out from the coast. Afterward, Ye Luo had deployed nearly one hundred Zerg Hive in the territory of the Iron-Pincer Green-Spine Shrimp. Of course, this was not what made Ye Luo so fearless; his greatest trump card at this moment was the Level 3 Base!
The Level 3 Base could provide one thousand Larva for free every day. With one hundred bases, that meant one hundred thousand Larva daily!
Beyond that, the Level 3 Zerg Hive had unlocked three new unit types. This war would serve as the perfect touchstone for these new units!
"Ye Meng, begin the attack!" From behind the one hundred thousand Zergling, Ye Luo commanded with icy coldness.
"Roar, roar, roar!" Ye Meng transformed into an exceptionally large Zergling and let out a heaven-shaking roar. The Zergling behind him immediately launched a charge toward the city gates!
"Archers, prepare!" Atop the wall, four thousand archers split into two rows. At the command, they immediately drew their bows and nocked their arrows!
"Loose!" The adjutant's arm dropped sharply. The first two thousand archers fired, their arrows laced with faint battle aura flying out like a swarm of locusts!
"Loose!" The adjutant didn't even look at the results, his arm snapping up and dropping again!
The first row of archers immediately retreated, reaching for arrows from the quivers on their backs to nock them, while the second row of warriors, already at full draw, stepped forward and fired without needing to aim.
"Loose!"
"Loose!"
"Loose!" The adjutant's arm never stopped, and the two rows of archers coordinated their preparations, ensuring the arrows in the sky never ceased, wave after wave!
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh..." The first wave of arrows flew in. The charging Zergling ignored them, at most lowering their heads to avoid being struck in vital spots!
"Puchi! Puchi! Puchi!" The first two thousand arrows arrived, hitting at least fifteen hundred Zergling! The arrows, tipped with faint black battle aura, bit deeply into the Zergling armor. Their tough skin could not fully protect them from the lethal strikes; two hundred unlucky Zergling were struck in the head, the immense force pinning them to the ground where they were trampled into pulp by their companions behind!
As for the other arrows, they were not nearly as effective!
A Zergling cleverly lowered its head before the arrows arrived, and two arrows whistled into the sides of its back. The moment the arrows entered its body, the Zergling tensed every muscle in its frame!
The foot-and-a-half-long arrows only penetrated less than ten centimeters before being clamped tight by its muscles! The Zergling, seemingly devoid of pain, continued to run at full speed. Despite taking two arrows, it didn't die, and its running speed barely dropped!
Under the rain of arrows, even as Zergling fell, there were eerily no cries of pain!
"Light God above, can these magical beasts not feel pain? Or are they simply mute!!!" Watching the frantic charge and the silent deaths, an archer stared at a Zergling with five arrows stuck in its body continuing to charge as if nothing had happened, his heart trembling as he muttered to himself.
From five hundred meters away, Ye Luo observed the entire battlefield through the vision transmitted by Ye Wang. Because of battle aura, the humans on this planet were far stronger than those of ancient Earth. From their high vantage point, they could ensure the arrows maintained maximum lethality at five hundred meters!
However, for a Zergling, crossing five hundred meters took less than thirty seconds. Thus, by the time the tenth wave of arrows fell, the front row of Zergling had already neared the city gates!
"Barrit, let these magical beasts witness the power of human magic!" Warwick was also closely observing the battle. Seeing the Zergling approach, he immediately issued the order!
Behind the archers, Barrit, who had long been prepared, stepped forward. Looking at the Zergling fifty meters outside the wall, he raised his staff, "Prepare the war magic, Path of Thorns!"
Although Barrit was a fire mage, that did not prevent him from presiding over earth-element war magic!
"Thick and tolerant earth spirits, your majesty has been provoked. Senseless violence cannot solve any problems; it will only ignite your most terrifying wrath. Please show the enemies your formidable power and let them understand that to be our enemy is to step onto a Path of Thorns!" Barrit's chant was loud, and with the simultaneous chanting of two hundred and fifty other mages, orange-yellow earth elements gathered in the air above them. When Barrit chanted the words "Path of Thorns," the earth elements suddenly condensed into a massive magic sigil. The sigil vanished from the sky and flashed into existence beneath the feet of the Zergling!
