In his youth, Zhang Song traveled the land with two fellow righteous heroes, and the trio became known as the Golden Iron Trio for their demon-slaying exploits. Their reputation was later ruined after one of their number became entangled with demons. 66

Zhang Song was once Heavenly Mystery Holy Land's foremost sword-dao genius. He possessed an Innate Sword Embryo and condensed the eleventh-ranked Purple Flame Sword Core, but the Seven Demonic Fiends plotted against him, severed his right arm, and extracted the Sword Embryo. The loss reduced the former prodigy to an ordinary Golden Core elder of Heaven Sword Peak. 140

He noticed Jiang Li after the latter exposed three Yin Puppet Sect infiltrators. Impressed by Jiang Li's resolve to slay demons and defend the Dao, Zhang Song reported the matter honestly, recommended him for the Elite Training Program, and later delivered the Holy Land's rewards in person. 5 6
