Diagon Alley.
Percy walked down the street with a young woman, both of them looking rather shy. Percy did his best to stand tall, ensuring the girl noticed the "Head Boy" badge on his chest.
Scabbers the rat was hiding listlessly inside Percy's pocket. Ever since the summer holidays—or more accurately, ever since Sirius Black broke out of prison—the rat had been like this.
There was nothing more terrifying than hearing that a madman who wanted your life was roaming free.
"He is at Hogwarts."
Arthur, Fudge, and even Dumbledore all believed this "he" referred to Harry Potter.
But Peter Pettigrew, the little rat Scabbers, knew that the person Sirius was focused on was likely not Harry Potter.
This "he" referred to himself, Peter Pettigrew.
Sirius would find him and kill him.
Just as Voldemort had killed James.
This time, if he faced Sirius, there would be no accidents.
Under such a life-or-death crisis, even Peter Pettigrew had lost his appetite and grown thin day by day.
Ron was a sentimental person. Seeing his little rat in such a state, he had begged his brother Percy to take Scabbers to Diagon Alley to see a healer.
There was a Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley where there might be potions for magical rodents.
Unfortunately, Percy's love for his former pet was not enough.
At least, it wasn't a high enough priority.
He was busy chatting away with his female classmate and had completely forgotten about taking the rat to see a healer.
After Percy dropped the girl off to buy books and returned, he saw that the Leaky Cauldron seemed to be in an uproar.
Ministry of Magic officials and witches and wizards from all over were discussing things in panic, shouting and yelling.
"What happened?"
Percy pricked up his ears, puzzled, wanting to hear more news.
Harry Potter also returned from Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour.
"Hi, Percy."
He saw Percy and greeted him.
"Harry."
Percy responded enthusiastically and stood beside Harry. Just as he was about to speak, he heard a wizard say in a firm, decisive voice: "I think—I mean, the Ministry of Magic is far too lenient right now. How can they allow Sirius Black and Dewey to be so unscrupulous!
And those idiots at the Ministry shouldn't have just given Dewey a forty-year sentence. A bastard like Dewey should have his soul sucked out by a Dementor!"
He spoke loudly, waving his hands vigorously to prove his point.
He was quite impassioned.
Both Harry and Percy had their attention drawn to him, and even Scabbers the rat quietly poked his head out from Percy's pocket.
A livid face appeared at the top of the stairs, looking down at them.
Harry recognized that face.
It was Fudge's face.
The Minister for Magic, Fudge—was he still at the Leaky Cauldron?
"Excuse me, make way."
Tom of the Leaky Cauldron said.
The wizard, with his back to the stairs, was still speaking passionately when he was given a well-meaning shove by Tom.
"The Minister wishes to see Harry Potter, please make way."
The wizard shut his mouth immediately. He pretended nothing had happened, hummed a little tune, and left the Leaky Cauldron without looking back.
Fudge snorted coldly and disappeared upstairs. Harry looked up, not understanding why Fudge had come again.
The point was, why did he want to see him?
"Percy, you come up too."
Fudge's voice came from above, sounding as if he had used a spell like "Sonorus."
Percy felt a bit nervous.
He had always wanted to work at the Ministry of Magic.
He meant that he wanted to restore the glory of his family.
He wanted to be an administrator at the Ministry.
Not just an operative.
Thinking that he was about to meet the Minister for Magic, he grew anxious, smoothing out the wrinkles in his clothes and asking Harry to check if he looked presentable.
Fudge did not look at the two young men below. He returned to his private room and closed the door.
Standing before him was the Head of the Auror Office, Scrimgeour.
His expression was grim.
"This is a provocation against the Ministry of Magic."
Scrimgeour stated, "We must protect Harry Potter while simultaneously intensifying our pursuit! Especially regarding Dewey; we completely underestimated him. In my view, Dewey's level of danger is now on par with Sirius Black."
Behind him, Mad-Eye Moody's magical eye darted wildly.
"Moody, give me your thoughts."
Scrimgeour said, calling on Moody to corroborate his assessment.
Fudge's gaze shifted to Moody, and Mad-Eye Moody replied, "These aren't just my thoughts; they are the thoughts of all my colleagues. Sirius Black is certainly dangerous—he is a madman—but he is a madman with a purpose. His purpose is, ahem, that man."
Mad-Eye Moody wore an expression that said 'you know who,' and Fudge urged him to get on with it.
He certainly knew that Sirius Black's target was Harry.
"Harry Potter is almost here!"
He urged.
Harry Potter and Percy were on the stairs, so Mad-Eye Moody cut to the chase and produced what he was holding.
"We found six Hit Wizards at sea who were supposed to return to report for duty. They were attacked by two Azkaban prisoners last night, and their wands were taken. Thank goodness they didn't die, but they suffered bites and beatings like those from a werewolf."
In the photograph, the six Hit Wizards looked ghastly, their faces bruised and swollen. They looked at Fudge, then stepped aside, revealing the words written behind them.
Fudge burned with rage. Upon seeing the text, his first reaction was fury, but his second was fear!
This was a declaration of war against the Ministry of Magic!
How dare they! How could they possibly do such a thing!
"Where is Dumbledore!"
He asked the men in a low voice.
In his mind, if Dumbledore took action, it meant success was guaranteed.
He felt extremely insecure and needed a strong figure to lean on. Without a doubt, Dumbledore was that man.
He didn't know exactly how strong Dumbledore was, but he felt that Dumbledore should be just a little bit stronger than all of them.
"He went to Romania or Montenegro to find a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher," Mad-Eye Moody said, looking at his superior. "Hogwarts is always short of a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, as you know."
Fudge was noncommittal about this.
He didn't want to mention that damned name at all right now. The curse of the Dark Lord? Just thinking about the name of the Dark Lord made him tremble all over!
He wanted to curse, but after a moment's thought, he held it back.
He rubbed his chin uneasily, then signaled for them to leave.
Before they left, he even considered ordering the Leaky Cauldron to be locked down, forbidding anyone from entering or leaving.
He had been terrified by Dewey.
He felt he had still underestimated Dewey.
This fellow, Dewey, was simply the craziest Death Eater he had encountered in the last eleven years.
Typical Death Eaters, like Sirius Black, only came out because they wanted to kill Harry Potter.
Some Death Eaters came out looking for the Dark Lord.
Only Dewey, this freak, seemed to have no obsession with finding the Dark Lord.
He only wanted revenge on the Ministry of Magic.
This was a pain Fudge could not bear.
The Dark Lord is dead, he told himself, constantly trying to convince himself. Voldemort is dead, so the most dangerous person right now is Dewey. My favorite thing to do is to take out this delusional madman. The Dark Lord is dead; he cannot possibly return.
Just as his head began to throb with pain, Harry and Percy arrived.
"Oh, children, sit down."
He signaled for the two boys to sit. He was in no mood to look at Percy's meticulously groomed appearance. He gathered his thoughts and said, "Children, there is a very troublesome matter I must tell you—er, Harry, this doesn't concern you. It's like this, Percy Weasley, is it? I am deeply saddened to tell you that your parents were attacked by Azkaban escapees in London. Oh, oh, oh, don't be nervous, child, it's fine, they are fine, they only suffered some minor physical injuries..."
The Weasley family was sent to St Mungo's Hospital, with a large number of Ministry of Magic agents tasked with casting Obliviate to make the surrounding Muggles forget everything that had happened here.
Elite Aurors began casting spells that were not usually permitted, searching for Dewey and Sirius.
At this moment, Sirius and Dewey were flying through the sky.
"Truly terrifying, Sirius. I mean, sealing off the entire Floo Network, prohibiting Apparition, having Hit Wizards patrol in droves, and even the Muggle police are stepping up their patrols—they have essentially locked down London on a magical level. But unfortunately, on a Muggle level, they simply cannot achieve perfection."
Dewey said to Sirius. It was his first time riding a Flying Broomstick; the thing didn't look comfortable at all, and it felt the same way to sit on. It was just painful—you know the feeling, it makes one very uneasy.
No one had expected that after the two of them brazenly attacked the Weasley family on the street, they would resolutely leave London, using a combination of Apparition and a car to depart quite openly. Even Sirius, before hearing Dewey's plan, would never have imagined Dewey could be so audacious.
Dewey's specialty was taking people by surprise.
Sirius also began to place greater importance on those Muggles.
"Does that thing still look familiar?"
Dewey brought up another matter, speaking to Sirius.
"Of course, 'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.' The Marauder's Map. I never expected this item to be in the hands of those two children."
Speaking of this item, Sirius felt a touch of nostalgia.
