Background / History

Ji Ning first appears in Anchan Commandery as a youth clad in animal skins, accompanied by his spirit beast White Water Marsh. At the time, Beishan Baiwei supports his effort to enter the Black-White Academy, while Ji Ning privately chooses Xia Manggan as the rival he intends to surpass. 3 11

During the Black-White Academy entrance examination, Ji Ning passes alongside Xia Manggan and Mu Zishuo. His remarkable sword comprehension earns the attention of the academy’s senior cultivators, who consider him the strongest new disciple aside from Xia Manggan. 19 20

At the academy, Ji Ning resonates with Immortal Beixing’s inscription—“Wielding a three-foot sword, I shall slay all injustice!”—and receives the complete Three-Foot Sword inheritance, which is imprinted into his soul. Immortal Diancai subsequently claims him as a disciple. 22 23

Ji Ning later becomes a direct disciple of Patriarch Bodhi at Fangcun Mountain. He brings Yu Wei, White Water Marsh, and Xiao Qing with him, as his companions and spirit beasts are permitted to cultivate there as well. 118
