Background

During the beginning of the Great Pirate Era, Kaido was already a prominent pirate, though he had not yet achieved the status of a Four Emperor and had not assembled the Calamities. Following Gol D. Roger’s execution, he joined the struggle for the territories left by Roger and Golden Lion. 3 44

By Round Sea Calendar Year 1504, Kaido had become a major force in the New World. Gecko Moria challenged him for territory but was defeated; Moria’s crew was nearly annihilated and Moria himself disappeared with grave injuries. 122

Kaido later established the Beasts Pirates as one of the Four Emperor crews. His reputation as the “Strongest Creature” was reinforced by repeated survival through captures, executions, and confrontations with both Marines and Emperors. 225 447

Though volatile, cruel, and prone to berserk violence, he is not merely reckless. Kaido quickly recognizes strategic threats, understands the danger of Dawn and Enel cooperating, and is concerned about the losses inflicted on the Zoan forces he spent years building. 438 447

Conflict with the Thunder God Pirates

Kaido repeatedly clashes with Enel after the Thunder God Pirates become a hostile force. During the war around Whole Cake Island, Enel keeps Kaido occupied in the sky, preventing him from supporting Big Mom and contributing to the collapse of the Beasts Pirates’ position. 386 387 409

Battle Against Dawn

After Enel weakens him, Kaido is led to Dawn. Dawn declares that his objective is not merely to defeat the Beasts Pirates, but to kill Kaido himself. 437 438

Their duel lasts for several days and devastates a desolate island. Dawn repeatedly wounds Kaido with Haki-infused blades, Slow Light, white flames, and Calamity God armor, while Kaido’s regeneration and increasing strength prevent a decisive finish. 439 447 453

Capture and Death

Aokiji and Zephyr join Dawn after Kaido has been weakened by the prolonged battle. The three overwhelm him through coordinated freezing, tremor attacks, stamina drain, and continuous close-range strikes; Kaido is fitted with Seastone handcuffs and sealed in Dawn’s Solid Castle space. 454 455

Dawn’s group then attempts to kill him. Kuroobi gradually demonizes Kaido while Dawn and Ouroboros repeatedly extract parts of his soul. Once the demonization reaches his heart, Ouroboros devours Kaido’s fully extracted soul, killing him. 458 459 460

Demon King Puppet

Dawn uses a Soul Avatar to occupy Kaido’s demonized corpse, creating the obedient “Demon King Kaido.” The puppet’s increased strength makes it a major asset in Dawn’s expanding forces. 461

Dawn later deploys Kaido at Mary Geoise, where the controlled body destroys Celestial Dragon residences, kills Celestial Dragons, and assists the Revolutionary Army’s escape. 476 477
