Background / History

Champa is the God of Destruction of Universe 6 and Beerus's twin brother. Beerus's concern that Universe 7's Saiyans were only its second-strongest combat force is partly driven by the prospect of being mocked by Champa. 2 22

When Whis brings Universe 7's Candidate Destroyer Mu Yang to Universe 6, Champa initially dismisses him as Beerus's “so-called Candidate Destroyer.” He immediately clashes with Mu Yang over etiquette, demanding to be addressed as “Lord.” 23

Champa agrees to spar with Mu Yang after tasting Mu Yang's Dongdong Bird egg fried rice. The match begins under the condition that Champa use no more than 10% of his power and neither fighter kill the other. 24

The battle repeatedly forces Champa to reassess Mu Yang: Mu Yang unveils Super Saiyan, absorbs Champa's Destruction Energy Balls, awakens as a Legendary Super Saiyan, and survives a planet-sized Destruction Energy Ball by manifesting a Buddha Golden Body. Champa ultimately sees Mu Yang collapse from exhaustion and ends the fight without continuing. 25 27 29 30

Afterward, Champa remains skeptical of Mu Yang's claim that he can surpass a Destroyer God within a month, unaware that Vados has been monitoring Mu Yang's rapid progress. He later continues to demand Mu Yang's fried rice and is shown sleeping when Mu Yang returns to the Destroyer God Realm. 32 43 47 50

Personality

Champa is proud, short-tempered, and highly conscious of the dignity attached to his position. He reacts aggressively to perceived disrespect, whether Mu Yang refusing to call him “Lord” or being served food after the others. 23 24

He is also competitive, especially where Beerus is concerned. His resentment over Beerus possessing Mu Yang as a Candidate Destroyer becomes envy as Mu Yang repeatedly grows stronger during their battle. 30

Despite his bluster, Champa can recognize exceptional strength. He admits that Mu Yang has reason to be proud after forcing him to exert significant power, and he shows concern when his own attack appears to have killed Mu Yang. 28 30

Love of Food

Food is one of Champa's strongest interests. He hates waste, treasures Dongdong Bird eggs, and is instantly won over by Mu Yang's fried rice—eventually ordering Vados to prepare it for him. 23 24 47

Spar with the Candidate Destroyer

Champa accepts Mu Yang's challenge and restricts himself under Vados's rules. He initially treats the match casually, but Mu Yang's Super Saiyan transformation, tactical self-injury, and ability to absorb Destruction energy steadily force him to raise his output. 24 27

Awakening of the Legendary Super Saiyan

After knocking Mu Yang down, Champa witnesses Mu Yang awaken as a Legendary Super Saiyan. His attacks escalate until he launches a massive Destruction Energy Ball; Mu Yang survives by mastering the Golden Body Tempering Method, after which exhaustion ends the spar. 28 30
