With their bellies full and Zhang Wutian's tournament prize money nearly depleted, it was finally time for the party to break up.
"What are your plans now?" Miss Bulma asked.
"I'm going to search for Grandpa's Four-Star Ball," Son Wukong said, raising her hand.
Dragon Balls, huh. Zhang Wutian pondered this internally.
If he were to discuss it with Son Wukong, given their friendship, she would likely be willing to yield the Dragon Ball for him to use for a wish.
However, having grown accustomed to life here, the urge to return home had gradually faded. Zhang Wutian realized he didn't have any particular wish he was desperate to fulfill.
Changing his bloodline or wishing to become a Saiyan... upon reflection, it seemed unnecessary. His cheat—the ability to grow stronger whenever he fought a superior opponent—had yet to hit a ceiling. As long as the conditions were met, his growth appeared limitless, rendering a Saiyan bloodline a redundant, chicken-rib-like luxury.
As for other wishes, such as immortality, Zhang Wutian felt he had no need for them at present; he could cross that bridge when he came to it.
Without desire, there was no motivation. Consequently, Zhang Wutian lacked interest in the Dragon Balls. If he happened to stumble upon one, he wouldn't mind wishing for a Häagen-Dazs or something similar, but he wasn't about to go out of his way to hunt for them.
With that spare time, he would rather refine his finishing moves until they were flawless.
At that moment, Son Wukong suddenly asked, "Zhang Wutian, would you be willing to come with me to find the Dragon Balls?"
"What?"
"Let's go on a journey together." Son Wukong seemed to think this was a brilliant idea, adding excitedly, "We can train on the road! It would be a lot of fun if we traveled together!"
A world for two...
Little Wukong is actually the one taking the initiative; you really can't judge a book by its cover.
Ignoring the whispering of Bulma and the others, Zhang Wutian thought for a moment before replying, "I have other things to attend to, so I can't join you for now. However, I do have an idea."
He turned to Bulma and said, "Miss Bulma, we'll be going our separate ways soon, and keeping in touch will be a hassle. Could you make a portable communicator for each of us? As long as we carry them, we can contact each other anytime, anywhere."
"Oh, that's right! Why didn't I think of that?" The Dragon Ball World lacked anything like a mobile phone. Once Zhang Wutian pointed it out, Bulma had an epiphany. To her, such simple mechanics were as easy as elementary school crafts; provided she had the raw materials, she could build them immediately.
"It would be best to add a GPS coordinate function so we can easily track each other's locations. This could be a lifesaver in a pinch. Of course, to protect personal privacy, one should be able to turn off their coordinates at any time," Zhang Wutian added.
"Heh, I see. You've got it all figured out, don't you?" Miss Bulma chuckled, nudging Zhang Wutian with her elbow. Zhang Wutian was left bewildered; he had no idea why she was making that expression.
Bulma was quite boy-crazy in the early stages of the manga, and Zhang Wutian attributed this to that trait. Little did he know that in Bulma's eyes, he had become a possessive, perverted stalker attempting to monitor Son Wukong's every move.
Setting aside Bulma's misunderstanding, Zhang Wutian's request actually contained a small, selfish motive.
He knew everything Son Wukong would encounter on this journey, and he was deeply interested in a certain place she would eventually visit...
Because Bulma needed to manufacture the communication devices, everyone traveled together to her home in West City.
As one of the "bugs" of the Dragon Ball World, Miss Bulma whipped up the handheld devices in no time. At Zhang Wutian's request, she engraved a bitten-tomato logo on the casing. Thus, the first mobile communication tool in the Dragon Ball World, the Tomato Phone, was born.
"Come, come, everyone take one. Here you go."
Bulma distributed the phones to everyone, and the group, having fully experienced the opulence of the Bulma household, accepted the young lady's gift with great respect.
Zhang Wutian took his phone and said pointedly to Yamcha, "Miss Bulma is beautiful, talented, and comes from such a wealthy family. She really is a perfect girl..."
"Sorry, but this perfect girl is already taken." As he said this, Yamcha hooked his arm around Bulma's shoulder, and Bulma leaned her head against him, looking like a bird resting on a branch.
Zhang Wutian smiled and began fiddling with the phone.
Eventually, under Bulma's guidance, even Son Wukong—who was completely clueless about machinery—mastered how to operate the phone. After testing the call function and learning how to track each other's locations, it was finally time to part ways.
"Are you really not coming with me?" Son Wukong looked reluctant to let go.
"I can't ride the Flying Nimbus, so I can't keep up with you."
"You could just follow me in a plane!"
Never mind a plane; Zhang Wutian hadn't even driven a car in this world yet.
Despite her reluctance, Son Wukong was a free spirit. After a moment of melancholy, she prepared to leave.
In any case, all she needed to do was find her grandfather's Four-Star Ball, which wouldn't take long. She could always come back to find Zhang Wutian afterward.
"Oh, right," Zhang Wutian said suddenly. "During your travels, if you happen to reach a place called Penguin Village, remember to contact me."
"Penguin Village? What kind of place is that?"
"Just a small town on the frontier." Zhang Wutian shrugged. "I'm a little interested in that place."
With rules and a worldview completely distinct from this one—where even the sun was a living organism—yet capable of seamlessly integrating into this world, it would be a lie to say Zhang Wutian wasn't interested in Penguin Village.
Son Wukong didn't think much of it and nodded, agreeing to his request.
After bidding farewell to the group, everyone scattered. Zhang Wutian, however, returned once more to the venue of the World Martial Arts Tournament.
Since he had decided to stay in this world, Zhang Wutian intended to secure a career for himself. He couldn't just go off farming and driving tractors like Son Goku in the original story.
He luckily found the host in the black suit and explained his intentions.
"Mr. Zhang Wutian, you intend to take out a loan from us and establish your own martial arts school in the name of the World Martial Arts Tournament champion?"
"I hope to cooperate with your organization to boost the 'World's Greatest' reputation while expanding the influence of the World Martial Arts Tournament."
This was clearly a win-win situation. While it might seem like the tournament organizers were footing the bill and doing all the work just to benefit Zhang Wutian, looking back at past tournaments, there had never been a fighter as capable as Zhang Wutian or Mary Sue. Zhang Wutian himself was a monopoly on talent. If managed correctly, he could become the tournament's golden signboard.
After negotiating with the operators behind the tournament, they agreed to provide the funding and support to build his school. In exchange, as the defending champion, Zhang Wutian was obligated to promote the tournament and participate in at least the next three events. If he failed to defend his title, the organizers would withdraw their support, at which point Zhang Wutian would have to sell his kidneys to pay off the debt.
In truth, if Zhang Wutian resorted to violence, it would be easy for him to make these powerless people submit. Never mind money or labor; he could even have them kneeling on the ground calling him "daddy" without issue. However, Zhang Wutian decided to play by the rules.
Since he enjoyed the conveniences brought about by the rules of this world, he had a corresponding obligation to uphold them. Zhang Wutian felt this was the most basic principle of being a decent person.
People who recklessly break rules according to their own whims are generally called criminals, and those who are more formidable are called Demon Kings. Having no interest in either profession, Zhang Wutian finally signed his name on the contract.
Actually, besides opening a martial arts gym, Zhang Wutian had better options for making money. He could utilize the mobile communication device Miss Bulma had recently created to establish the world's first mobile phone manufacturing company in this world without cell phones. Making a fortune from this and becoming the Apple of the Dragon Ball World was not just a pipe dream.
But this was clearly outside his area of expertise, and Zhang Wutian wasn't interested. He believed that since he had transmigrated to the Dragon Ball World, he had to do something that fit the characteristics of this world. Becoming some sort of "Zhang Jobs" was out of the question; it would be far too jarring.
"The champions of the next three martial arts tournaments? That means I have to suppress Tien Shinhan and King Piccolo for at least the next few years, and of course, that monkey girl Son Wukong as well..."
Thinking this, a look of excitement appeared on Zhang Wutian's face.
"Interesting. Let's do it!"
