Background / History
Mei was born into the Raiden family as the daughter of Raiden Ryoma. When her Stigmata began awakening during childhood, its incomplete awakening left her critically ill. Ryoma obtained approval to implant the Gem of Conquest, suppressing the Stigmata's awakening long enough for eight-year-old Mei to survive. 59 134
Before the Third Honkai outbreak, Mei studied at Chiba Academy. Her noble upbringing left her surrounded by flattering classmates, but after Ryoma was imprisoned over an economic scandal, those classmates turned cold and she became withdrawn. She had trained in swordsmanship since childhood, including with the “Houm Swordsman.” 9 24
Cocolia's Honkai outbreak in Changkong City fully awakened Mei's Stigmata. A second consciousness was born from it, took on the burden of Herrscher authority, and identified itself as the Third Herrscher. While Mei herself was unconscious, this persona remained at Chiba Academy; her awakening alone caused the surrounding disaster, but she did not intentionally devastate the city. 3 9 10
Following the outbreak, Mei enrolled at St. Freya Academy with Kiana, Bronya, and Ming Yu. Initially afraid that her other self would harm people, she gradually began communicating with her after agreeing to seek its power to save Yuna from becoming a Pseudo-Herrscher. 20 24 25
Mei later joined Ming Yu and Bronya's Siberia operation to rescue her father. During the mission, she accepted her Herrscher identity as a source of strength that could protect others, infiltrated Cocolia's fortress, and reunited with Ryoma. 119 123 131
Appearance
Mei is a purple-haired girl usually seen with bright purple eyes. When her Stigmata persona controls their shared body, her eyes turn crimson and her demeanor becomes markedly more forceful. 12 25
- Purple hair, sometimes tied into a ponytail for training. 96
- Uses a katana as her preferred and consistently chosen weapon. 19 95
- Her appearance changes to that of a samurai girl while inside Yae Sakura's Stigmata Space. 58
- Herrscher power manifests through lightning, purple-blue Honkai energy, and gathering storm clouds. 95 129
Personality
Mei is gentle, considerate, and accustomed to caring for the people around her. She is also conscientious to a fault: after Changkong City's disaster, she fears her power and feels responsible for its victims, yet chooses to confront that fear when another life is at stake. 20 24
Her experiences following Ryoma's imprisonment made her more reserved, but life at St. Freya gives her genuine friends and allows her to become more open. She values family deeply, immediately committing herself to the mission once she learns her father is alive. 24 118 119
Mei's Stigmata persona is sharper, more combative, and readily calls Mei a coward. Despite her cold presentation and enjoyment of battle, she cooperates with Mei, wants friends, protects those close to her, and ultimately chooses the name “Hokushin Mei” to establish herself as a distinct individual. 24 25 55 61 129
