Sirius Black was still trying hard to pick out Regulus when he saw the swaying, staggering Kreacher walk into the middle of the Inferi. The tearful House-elf wiped at his face haphazardly, then carefully examined the corner of each Inferius's eyes.
The thought that this damned cur had actually watched Regulus be dragged away by the Inferi without doing anything made Sirius Black sneer in a strange, mocking voice, "Putting on an act again? You were playing dead on the ground just now, and now you've crawled up like nothing happened. You useless dog, all you know how to do is perform."
But Kreacher, unusually, ignored Sirius Black. His bloodshot, bulging eyes widened for an instant when he saw the Inferi, and more large tears slid from his sockets, pouring from his sunken eyes. His shriveled chest rose and fell violently. "My poor Master Regulus. Kreacher was useless. Kreacher could not come to fetch you sooner. If Mistress saw you become like them, how heartbroken she would be."
At the mention of his mother, Sirius Black seemed to be enraged. He roared irritably, "Shut up, Kreacher. Don't get in my way while I find Regulus."
