Nineteen: A Theory

Long before, after defeating Ginyu and wiping out his entire force, Kast had gone to the palace on Planet Dor.

Invited by the king, Kast had entered the palace and learned a great deal through their conversation. He understood their concerns.

Kast told them not to worry. That was exactly why he had come.

And so came the scene in which he spoke with Frieza.

Kast had also left the spaceship intact after killing Ginyu and his men for this very reason.

After talking with Frieza, Kast prepared to leave the planet.

The king had asked Kast to stay and teach them how to use ki, but Kast declined. He did, however, leave them a Tree of Might fruit and explain how to train their ki.

Once the king learned that Kast was leaving to draw Frieza's attention, he stopped trying to persuade him to stay. He only hoped Kast would visit whenever he had time in the future.

As it happened, Kast had a reason for suddenly changing his mind and deciding to seek out Frieza directly.

At first, Kast had planned to confront Frieza only after he could transform into a Super Saiyan. But as time passed and Ginyu appeared, he had to change his plans.

Since things never went according to plan, he could only take the initiative himself.

Kast could feel it: he was clearly aware of the barrier keeping him from transforming. He was just a little short—he only needed one small catalyst—and then he would become a mighty Super Saiyan.

There were generally two ways for a Saiyan to transform into a Super Saiyan. The first was overwhelming anger. Only in a state of extreme grief and rage could the power of emotion be converted into its most primal energy, triggering a transformation and bringing about a qualitative change.

But this was an unorthodox shortcut. After transforming this way, one might lose control of one's emotions.

Though it carried some risk, this method was relatively simple. Unfortunately, Kast couldn't use it.

After all, he had no reason to be angry and nothing worth getting angry over.

Without those triggers, transforming through rage was all but impossible.

Since he couldn't transform through anger, he had to try another way: transforming through strength. Once a Saiyan reached a certain level of power, there was a good chance they would transform naturally.

That threshold was roughly three to five million. The stronger, the better.

Kast had already reached the point where he should have been able to transform. He had a power level of five million, yet even with such strength, he still felt a barrier holding him back.

Some might think the reason was that he hadn't trained his strength himself, but had gained it from the Tree of Might fruit. That wasn't the case. The Tree of Might fruit could greatly increase one's power, but the boost had no harmful side effects. It could even nourish the consumer's body. After all, the fruit was a source of life energy and was harmless.

If the Tree of Might wasn't the reason, then what was keeping him from transforming?

Kast already had a theory.

He wondered if the Saiyan bloodline had been specially sealed in ancient times, preventing them from transforming.

After all, the original story showed that Super Saiyans were among the strongest beings in the universe. Yet the Saiyans of the present were so weak that they couldn't even transform into Super Saiyans, treating them as nothing more than a legend. They called themselves a warrior race, but lacked the strength such a race should have.

It was a glaring contradiction.

Kast felt there had to be a special reason: their bloodline had been sealed.

He remembered that, in the original story, Son Goku faced several life-and-death battles on Namek. After being revived, his power soared; his base form must have reached a power level of three million. Even then, it took Krillin's death and the overwhelming rage it caused for him to transform into a Super Saiyan.

Goku had struggled so much to transform. But later, his sons, Son Gohan and Son Goten...

Son Gohan's transformation could be explained by a period of grueling training under Goku and Piccolo. In the end, he transformed in a fit of anger alongside Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

But Son Goten was only seven years old and had never trained at all. Chi-Chi's lessons hardly counted as training; they amounted to little more than simple sparring. He couldn't even fly, and had no trigger for anger, yet he transformed into a Super Saiyan.

Goku's granddaughter, Pan, could fly from birth and circle the Earth when she was only a few years old.

It was almost impossible to imagine.

Kast therefore deduced that Goku's transformation, followed by Vegeta and one Saiyan after another breaking through to become Super Saiyans, had weakened the seal on their bloodline. As a result, the threshold for later Saiyans to transform gradually fell, and their strength began to grow.

Of course, there was another possibility: having Saiyan and Earthling parents made it easier to become a Super Saiyan. Half-Saiyans had tremendous potential from the start, and their mixed heritage weakened the seal on their bloodline. That was why Goten and Trunks could transform into Super Saiyans at such a young age.

Pan was a further mix of Saiyan and human blood, which weakened the seal even more, allowing a young child to possess such incredible strength.

That explained why Kast had been stuck at this bottleneck.

But now that he knew the reason, he wasn't going to sit around and do nothing. His plan was simple: find Frieza and break through to Super Saiyan in the midst of a life-or-death battle.

For that reason, Kast decided to stop keeping a low profile. Ginyu's arrival had made up his mind.

So Kast didn't hesitate. He went aboard Ginyu's spaceship and contacted Frieza remotely, arranging a carefully planned showdown on Planet Vegeta.
