Background / History

Bulma attends the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament with Master Mutaito, Oolong, and Launch. During Tien Shinhan's match against Mercenary Tao, she notices a hooded figure with a tail wrapped around his waist and correctly suspects a connection to Son Goku. 95

After Kast reveals Goku's Saiyan heritage, he seeks Bulma out because she is the only person on Earth he believes can build the equipment necessary for his alternate transformation path. Bulma agrees to help, invites Kast's group to stay at her home, and ultimately becomes involved in their training and preparations. 106 111 112

Working with Dr. Brief for seven months, Bulma develops the Super Blutz Wave Emitter from scattered starlight data after Earth's moon has been destroyed. The machine can reproduce enhanced Blutz Waves, operate automatically or by remote control, and is intended to trigger Kast's Great Ape transformation as part of his attempt to reach Super Saiyan 4. 112 143 148 150
