In the future world,
Earth had been reduced to a wasteland. West City, once bustling and prosperous, had become a ruin!
In this timeline, Goku had died of the Heart Virus! Future Vegeta had lost his will to fight and completely let himself go. He stopped training, leaving Gohan to shoulder the burden of protecting Earth.
When Frieza arrived on Earth, Goku was still alive. He gave it everything he had and defeated Frieza and King Cold.
Then he died of his illness! Three years later, Vegeta, Tien Shinhan, Piccolo, and the others were killed by Androids 17 and 18,
Only Gohan, enraged by his friends' deaths, transformed into a Super Saiyan. But he still couldn't beat the Androids and could only flee in shame!
Trunks became Gohan's student and trained under him. After all, he and Gohan were the only fighters left on Earth! If they both died, Earth would be finished!
The Androids in the future were vicious, killing and destroying everywhere they went. They were completely different from the Androids in the main timeline!
After seven years spent fleeing and hiding, Gohan lost an arm protecting Trunks from Android 17.
He became a one-armed hero, and Trunks was consumed with regret!
"Trunks, you have to keep trying. You have a real chance of becoming a Super Saiyan too. You have to defeat them!" Future Gohan said!
A scar crossed his face. He had only one arm, but his gaze was unwavering!
"Master Gohan, I still can't do it. Why can't I transform, no matter how angry I get?" Future Trunks said, deeply frustrated!
"Because your basic battle power still isn't high enough. We've spent so long on the run that you haven't been able to train properly. But you're close. You carry Uncle Vegeta's blood, and you have the Saiyan lineage. Haven't you noticed that your strength has been growing as you get older?" Gohan reassured him!
"I guess so, Master Gohan. Then how can I transform?" Trunks asked!
"Anger. Absolute fury. I transformed suddenly after Uncle Piccolo was killed," Gohan explained!
As the two talked, two beams of light suddenly shot toward them. Android 17 and Android 18 had found them!
There was no time to dodge. Gohan instantly transformed into a Super Saiyan and blocked the attack.
"Trunks, run!" Gohan urged him!
Over the past seven years, Gohan had gone from running away to being able to fight either Android 17 or Android 18 to a standstill on his own. But he still couldn't beat them both at once, so he had to keep fleeing.
He could only hope that Trunks would transform into a Super Saiyan and hold off one of them. He was confident he could destroy the other one! Then the world's crisis would be over!
But Trunks was so terrified by the Androids' strength that he couldn't bear to leave his master behind. He stood there, frozen!
Android 17 and Future Gohan fought fiercely!
"18, help me. He's getting stronger and I'm starting to have trouble beating him! We have to kill him quickly. If he escapes again, who knows what he'll be like next time?" Android 17 said coldly.
"Hold him off. I'll kill Trunks first and wipe out his last hope," Android 18 said.
With that, she rose into the air and gathered power in her palm. A terrifying energy blast locked onto Trunks and sped toward him!
Trunks was too frightened to move. Just then, Gohan took a hit from Android 17 and used the force to propel himself at high speed in front of Trunks! He blocked the blast. There was no time to defend himself properly, and the energy blast left him barely able to breathe.
"Master Gohan..." Trunks cried out!
A powerful aura suddenly erupted from his body, and golden light enveloped him. At last, he had done it. He had transformed into a Super Saiyan! But the price was Gohan's life!
"Androids, you'll pay for this..." Trunks said.
Then he soared into the air and charged at Android 18.
Though he had transformed, he still wasn't strong enough. He would only get beaten up if he went after her!
While Trunks was being beaten, they had forgotten about Gohan. Gohan was still alive.
Watching Trunks being toyed with and beaten, Gohan forced himself to summon his remaining strength and rushed in front of him!
"Run! You can't beat them yet. Train hard. You still have Aunt Bulma to protect! I'm done for," Gohan said, his voice filled with resignation.
"Let's go together, Master Gohan," Trunks said reluctantly.
Gohan didn't say another word. He charged at the Androids, his aura blazing, and gathered every last bit of his energy to self-destruct.
Trunks was reluctant and furious, but there was nothing he could do. He still had his mother to protect, and Gohan's self-destruction was buying him time.
He quickly held his breath, dropped into the water, and swam toward the island where Bulma was. There was a bunker underground on the island, safe from the blast!
After the explosion, Gohan had vanished! Android 17 and Android 18 brushed off the dust. When Gohan self-destructed, Android 17 had activated his Energy Shield, so the blast hadn't affected him at all. He was completely unharmed.
They watched Trunks escape but had no interest in chasing him. He had only just become a Super Saiyan and was still far too weak! They didn't want to lose their plaything, either. They could go find him again whenever they felt like playing!
Trunks escaped to where Bulma was, threw his arms around her, and sobbed as he told her everything! Mai stood beside them, softly comforting him, sharing in his grief.
Bulma had already shed all her tears when Vegeta and the others died.
Then Bulma said, "I've finished building the Time Machine. We're just waiting for it to finish charging. Then you can go back to the past and change history!"
"Mom, can we really change history?" Trunks asked!
"I'm not sure, but we have to try every possible way! That way, you can also go back to the past and see your father with your own eyes," Bulma said, yearning for him.
In her mind, the image of that proud, fiercely self-respecting figure appeared once more!...
