In the future world, The Earth is in ruins; West City, once bustling and vibrant, has been reduced to rubble.
In this timeline, Goku passed away quietly due to a viral heart disease. Future Vegeta lost his will to fight and completely gave up, ceasing all training, leaving Gohan to shoulder the burden of protecting the Earth.
When Frieza arrived on Earth, Goku was still alive. He used all his strength to defeat Frieza and King Cold.
Then, he died from his illness. Vegeta, Tien Shinhan, Piccolo, and the others were killed three years later by the Androids, 17 and 18.
Only Gohan, fueled by the rage of losing his comrades, transformed into a Super Saiyan, yet he still could not defeat the Androids and was forced to hide in desperation.
Trunks took Gohan as his master to learn and train, for they were the last remaining fighters on Earth. If they both died, the world would be finished.
The Androids of the future were truly evil, killing and destroying everywhere—completely different from the Androids of the main timeline.
During seven years of hiding and fleeing, Gohan lost an arm to 17 while protecting Trunks.
He became a one-armed hero, and Trunks was filled with regret.
"Trunks, you must keep going. You have every potential to transform into a Super Saiyan; you must defeat them!" Future Gohan said.
Though his face bore a scar and he had only one arm, his eyes were filled with unwavering resolve.
"Master Gohan, I still can't do it. No matter how much rage I feel, I can't succeed!" Future Trunks said, deeply frustrated.
"It is because your base power is not yet enough. We have been in a state of constant flight, and you haven't been able to train properly. But it will be soon. You carry the blood of Uncle Vegeta, a superior Saiyan lineage. Haven't you noticed that your strength has been slowly increasing as you grow?" Gohan comforted him.
"I suppose so. Master Gohan, then how can I transform?" Trunks asked.
"Rage. Extreme rage. I only transformed that day because Uncle Piccolo was killed in battle," Gohan explained.
Just as the two were talking, two energy blasts suddenly struck. 17 and 18 had found them.
There was no time to dodge. Gohan instantly transformed into a Super Saiyan to block the attack.
"Trunks, run!" Gohan urged.
Over the past seven years, Gohan had evolved from someone who only fled to someone who could fight 17 or 18 one-on-one on equal footing. However, he still could not handle both of them at once and had to keep running.
He only hoped that Trunks could transform into a Super Saiyan to hold off one of them, and he would have the confidence to destroy the other. The world's crisis would then be resolved.
Trunks, however, was terrified by the Androids' power and could not bear to leave his master behind, standing there in a daze.
17 and Future Gohan engaged in a fierce battle.
"18, help me. He is getting stronger; I'm starting to struggle! We must kill him quickly. If he escapes again, who knows what will happen next time!" 17 said coldly and ruthlessly.
"Hold him off. I'll go kill Trunks first and extinguish his last shred of hope," 18 said.
With that, she soared into the air, gathering power in her palm. A terrifying energy blast locked onto Trunks and streaked toward him.
Trunks was frozen in fear. At that moment, Gohan took a direct hit from 17 to gain the momentum to speed toward Trunks, blocking the blast. Because the timing was so tight, Gohan had no time to prepare a defense and was struck by the energy, his life force fading rapidly.
"Master Gohan..." Trunks screamed.
A powerful aura suddenly erupted from his body, surrounded by golden light. He had finally succeeded. He transformed into a Super Saiyan, but the price was Gohan's life.
"Androids, you all deserve to die..." Trunks said.
He flew up and charged at 18.
Although he had transformed, his strength was still insufficient, and he only ended up being beaten.
While Trunks was being toyed with, they ignored Gohan. Gohan was not dead yet.
Watching Trunks being abused and toyed with, Gohan forced himself to gather his remaining energy and rushed in front of Trunks.
"Run! You can't beat them right now. Train hard; you still have Aunt Bulma to protect! I can't go on anymore," Gohan said, his voice filled with the resolve of the dying.
"Let's go together, Master Gohan," Trunks said, unwilling to accept this.
Gohan said nothing more. He rushed toward the Androids, his aura exploding as he condensed all his remaining energy into a self-destruction.
Though Trunks was heartbroken and filled with hatred, he had no choice. He still had his mother to protect. Using the distraction of Gohan's explosion, he suppressed his energy, dropped into the water, and swam toward the island where Bulma was hiding. There was an underground bunker on the island that would be safe from the blast.
After the explosion, Gohan was gone. 17 and 18 brushed off the dust. When Gohan self-destructed, 17 had activated a barrier, and they were not affected by the energy wave. They were completely unharmed.
Seeing Trunks escape, they had no interest in chasing him. After all, he had only just become a Super Saiyan, and his strength was still far too lacking. They were not ready to lose their plaything yet; they would find him again when they wanted to have more fun.
Trunks reached Bulma's location, held her, and wept, telling her everything. Mai stood to the side, offering quiet comfort, feeling his pain as if it were her own.
Bulma's tears had long since run dry when Vegeta and the others were killed.
At this moment, Bulma said, "I have already finished developing the Time Machine. Now we are just waiting for it to charge, and you can return to the past to change history."
"Mother, will it really change the current history?" Trunks asked.
"I am not certain, but no matter what, we must try. This way, you can also return to the past and see your father with your own eyes," Bulma said, filled with longing.
In her mind, the image of that proud man with the indomitable spirit surfaced once more.
