After some deliberation, Axis decided to present the energy gun, the Scouter, and the protective suit to the Emperor first.
He intended to use these as bargaining chips to secure a position as an Adeptus Custodes and the opportunity to remain by the side of the Wolf King, Leman Russ.
Once he had selected the items, Axis carefully hid the most important briefcase, along with several capsules and the spaceship, before stepping outside.
At this moment, the Wolf King, Leman Russ, had already announced to his people that he was the son of the Emperor and would be participating in the Great Crusade.
"Warriors of Fenris! We are about to join a great war; I have reunited with my father, the Master of Mankind, the Emperor."
"Every one of you has the chance to become my true heir, to become my Wolf Cubs. I shall lead you to victory after glorious victory," Leman Russ declared in a booming voice.
"Follow the great Wolf King!"
"Follow the Emperor and join the Great Crusade!" the warriors of Fenris roared, raising their weapons high.
Watching this scene, Axis couldn't help but shake his head; the success rate for the surgical augmentation of a Space Marine was notoriously low.
Otherwise, these super-soldiers would number in the tens or hundreds of millions rather than just over two million, and there would be no need for the ordinary Imperial Army.
He wondered how many of these Fenrisian warriors would actually survive the Astartes transformation surgery.
Under Russ's orders, a large number of elderly and prime-aged warriors were left behind to continue protecting the tribes and to coordinate with the Imperial personnel who would soon arrive.
A new military fortress was to be built on Fenris, establishing the planet as the recruitment world for the Primarch Leman Russ and the homeworld of the Sixth Legion.
In the upcoming Great Crusade, this world would provide the Sixth Legion with weapons, equipment, and fresh recruits.
"Axis, are you ready?" Leman Russ asked as he approached.
"Russ, I've made my selection. With these three items, we shall convince the Emperor!" Axis explained the three chosen items to Russ in detail.
"I know these things; you used them when we fought, and you even gave me a protective suit! That thing is a treasure," Leman Russ remarked.
The defensive capabilities of that suit were immense. Axis had once gifted him one, and even the fangs of his wolf brothers, which could snap steel, were unable to pierce the thin material.
Its defense was astonishing, and Russ had taken to wearing it as an under-armor; it was comfortable, incredibly lightweight, and soft.
"As for this Scouter, I remember when we sparred ten days ago, you measured my combat power at nearly 1,800, while yours was over 500," Leman Russ recalled.
Among the warriors of the tribe, the highest combat power was barely over 20, with most hovering just above 10. Ordinary women had a combat power of 6–8, and children were generally below 5.
There was only one person with a combat power over a thousand—himself—and the only other one to break a hundred was Axis.
"Take another look at my combat power," Axis said, handing the Scouter to Russ.
During his previous training with the Emperor, his Saiyan bloodline had experienced a breakthrough, further increasing his power.
The Saiyans were a race with immense combat talent, evolving through constant battle, learning, and training with no known limits.
Russ nodded, placed the Scouter over his eye, and pressed the button. Beep, beep, beep—a set of red numbers appeared.
It displayed a combat power of 756, a full 200-point increase from before.
"You're improving fast, kid! Now, what about me?" Leman Russ asked.
After his battle with the Emperor, he felt he had grown significantly stronger; never before had anyone given him such a satisfying fight.
"Your combat power has reached over 1,860. I estimate that in another year or two, you'll break 2,000," Axis replied.
The combat power levels in the Dragon Ball world were exaggerated. In the original story, Master Roshi, with a combat power of over 100, could blow up the moon, and King Piccolo, with over 260, could rule the entire world.
Once you broke 1,000, you could exert absolute dominance on a planet, and once your combat power exceeded 10,000, congratulations—you were a planet-busting powerhouse.
However, all of this was predicated on the ability to use ki to fire energy blasts. Without ki, even a Super Saiyan 3 could not shatter a planet with fists alone.
Because a planet could not survive without the existence of a Super Saiyan 3, and without the power of ki, Russ could only rely on his raw physical strength, which was enough to shatter a few mountains at most. (Let's patch a bug here: in the Dragon Ball world, a combat power of 200 can destroy the moon, but it doesn't work that way here because they lack ki; only the protagonist can do that.)
Therefore, in this world, the Scouter measured pure physical combat power, though it had its drawbacks.
In the Dragon Ball universe, experts generally utilized ki and possessed incredibly durable bodies, making the Scouter quite accurate.
Here, however, one sometimes had to account for Power Swords, Chainswords, Power Armor, Plasma Weapons, and Melta Guns, otherwise, the calculation wouldn't be precise.
One had to remember that an ordinary human soldier wielding a Power Sword could theoretically kill an Adeptus Custodes if he managed to land a hit.
"I think you should bring the spaceship as well. I have a feeling this won't be simple; my father is a very imposing figure," Leman Russ said, rubbing his chin.
"Are you sure? An FTL engine is no small matter," Axis replied.
He had originally intended to present the FTL engine to the Emperor only after his own Custodes surgery was complete.
"Trust my instincts, Axis!"
"My mind has been buzzing, as if I have a premonition. You must bring that FTL spaceship to convince my father; otherwise, he will not accept your terms."
"You might even anger him, and the consequences of that would be terrifying. I think I've seen something," Leman Russ said, crouching down.
In the blurred visions he had glimpsed, bringing only those items to the Emperor would not only fail to convince him but would actively provoke his father.
The consequences of angering the Emperor went without saying.
Axis was shocked to hear this. A powerful intuition! Could it be a psychic premonition of the future?
