There were some things he really couldn't explain to Axis in detail. Gene-seed was extracted from the bodies of the Primarchs.
It seemed to have nothing to do with the Warp, but since the Primarchs were, by nature, connected to the Warp, Gene-seed was incredibly mysterious in certain ways.
First of all, those implanted with Gene-seed naturally felt a sense of closeness toward their Father of Genes. Unless they had exceptionally strong wills, they would regard the Father of Genes' commands as the will of a god.
All gene-children would obey their Primarch's commands without question. If a Primarch betrayed them, then his Gene-seed could no longer be trusted.
The entire legion would have to be wiped out! That was one of the Emperor's cruel necessities.
"I understand, teacher! So when can I return to the Space Wolves? My father must have been waiting for me for a long time!" Axis asked.
He couldn't ask the Emperor about this, but he could ask his teacher, Malcador, when he'd be able to return to the Space Wolves and rejoin Russ.
"You'll see your father and return to his side soon. Just complete this mission first; don't worry about anything else for now," Malcador said.
As it happened, Leman Russ had also been assigned this mission. The Emperor's original plan had been for Leman Russ to lead the Space Wolves in purging the second Primarch and his legion.
Axis had been sent along to surprise them both, without telling either of them about the other. Once the mission was over, Axis would return to the Space Wolves.
Then, once he understood the terrible threat posed by the Warp, he would come looking for the Emperor—and for him—of his own accord.
Axis had immense potential, and the power of ki couldn't be replicated. The spare incubation pod beside him was actually intended to grow a clone of Axis. Though the clone couldn't produce ki, he would at least be a warrior on the level of an Adeptus Custodes.
This cloning experiment had given the Emperor a true understanding of just how much potential Axis had, and just how important the power of ki was.
The clone had developed quite well at first, but no ki had formed inside him. His cells had even begun to show signs of resistance, as though they would wither without being nourished by ki.
The clone had never fully developed into a living being. He was merely a distorted life-form resembling Axis, and could only cling to life inside the incubation pod.
Without the nutrients in the pod's fluid, he would die as soon as he came into contact with the outside world, deprived of the energy that was ki.
After discovering this, the Emperor and Malcador had promptly destroyed the clone and used the incubation pod to create something else.
The experiment had only made them more certain that Axis was irreplaceable, and that his role in the future might even rival that of a Primarch.
That was why the Emperor and Malcador were so concerned about Axis's growth. They'd decided that simply telling him about the Chaos Entity's threat in the Warp probably wouldn't have much effect, so they planned to let the boy experience the terror of the Chaos Entities in the Warp for himself.
"I understand, teacher. I'll listen to you and obey the Emperor's orders," Axis said.
He'd set himself a small goal for now: become a Super Saiyan! Axis felt like his body was bursting with strength.
Over the next few days, Axis began all kinds of rehabilitation exercises. After one day, he could walk normally. After two days, he could run and jump without difficulty.
In just ten days, Axis had completely mastered his new body. He could fly through the air and fire Ki Blasts.
He was now 2.1 meters tall, a giant among Saiyans—only a little shorter than Nappa and Broly!
Axis felt a little disappointed about his height, but also a little relieved. Being over three meters tall would certainly be imposing, but it came with plenty of drawbacks.
For instance, finding a girl who could match your size would be difficult! He had no intention of spending his whole life alone, like the other Adeptus Custodes and Primarchs.
"Teacher, how strong is my skin now?" Axis asked.
After more than ten days of training, Axis could clearly feel how tough his body had become. His defenses were through the roof.
"I'd like to find out, too. We have a rough estimate, but we should run some tests," Malcador said.
Axis nodded, and the two of them went to the armory.
Malcador brought over a standard New World Army Lasgun, a Bolter Rifle, and a massive Bolter used by Space Marines.
He also brought a Plasma Gun, a Melta Weapon, a newly developed energy weapon, a kinetic sword, and a Chainsword.
They began the tests with the Lasgun. After the red beam struck him, Axis felt nothing at all. It hadn't even left a mark on his skin.
Malcador nodded in satisfaction, then picked up a standard Bolter Rifle and fired at Axis.
A series of bangs rang out. Axis felt as if grains of sand had struck him, but otherwise barely noticed anything. The bullets had all deformed and fallen to the ground.
Next, they tried the Bolter used by Space Marines. Axis felt as though he'd been hit with a rubber bullet, but that was all. His skin hadn't even reddened.
Then Malcador fired the Melta Weapon at Axis. Since it could generate intense heat, Axis didn't take any chances. He formed a layer of ki around his body for protection.
His terrifying ki surged around him like flames. Then a wisp of green energy took shape, becoming a shield that wrapped around his body.
The ki shield filled Axis with delight. Broly had used this move in the movie; it was an innate ability of Super Saiyans. His body really was evolving into that of a Legendary Super Saiyan.
"Is this a defensive barrier made of ki? Something like a Psykic Power shield?" Malcador asked curiously. He stepped forward to touch the green barrier, but the instant he did, he was violently flung backward.
He felt a terrifying force, as if an invisible giant hand had smacked him away.
After using the move, Axis suddenly felt a terrifying anger rise from deep within him—a fury he could barely control.
"Ah! Ah!"
