The remaining Adeptus Custodes quickly adjusted their tactics, abandoning direct frontal assaults against Axis in favor of a siege conducted with absolute coordination.
They wove through one another like golden lightning, the edges of their power halberds weaving a lethal web, while the force fields of their storm shields overlapped to form a nearly impenetrable defensive formation.
However, Axis merely grinned; in the face of absolute power, everything was futile.
His figure blurred suddenly, and the next instant, the sonic boom of air being torn asunder erupted as his fist, wreathed in a mass of ki energy, smashed directly into the shield of an Adeptus Custodes.
BOOM—!
The storm shield's force field overloaded instantly, sending arcs of explosive energy scattering, while the shockwave left the arms of the wielder numb.
The warrior slid back dozens of meters, his boots carving two charred furrows into the ground.
"His strength... it's actually increasing?!" one of the Adeptus Custodes muttered.
"No, he wasn't even trying before!" Caesar gritted his teeth, forcing down the dull ache in his chest as he gripped his power halberd once more.
Having fought this Axis for over a month, he knew the brat too well.
The previous combat had seemed fierce and the Adeptus Custodes had been completely suppressed, but in reality, the kid had been playing the whole time.
He hadn't been serious at all, and even now, he showed no intention of using his full strength; such a disparity in power was simply despair-inducing.
Axis's figure vanished again, appearing this time directly in the center of the Adeptus Custodes formation.
He stomped down hard, causing the ground to collapse with a roar, and a violent shockwave rippled outward in a ring, leaving the Adeptus Custodes struggling to keep their footing.
Is this guy a humanoid Titan? Is he a true monster?
Axis reached out with lightning speed, grabbing the arms of two Adeptus Custodes and spinning his body, using the two warriors as weapons like a giant top.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
The surrounding Adeptus Custodes were sent flying instantly, while the two used as weapons fared even worse, their bodies twitching uncontrollably.
The remaining Adeptus Custodes finally realized they were not facing an ordinary warrior, but a near-monstrous existence.
"Scatter! Suppress him from a distance!" Caesar ordered sharply.
The Adeptus Custodes retreated rapidly, switching their power halberds to energy projection mode as searing plasma beams and bolter fire poured out like a torrential rain.
Yet Axis merely raised a hand, golden-green energy condensing in his palm to form a translucent barrier; all attacks striking it vanished as if into an abyss, failing to stir even a ripple.
Force fields are so useful! Axis even placed one hand on his hip and yawned, performing an incredibly provocative gesture.
Teacher Malcador won't let me use ki energy blasts against these Adeptus Custodes, so using a force field should be fine, right?
"What... what is this?" one of the Adeptus Custodes asked in disbelief.
This was simply too absurd! Was it a void shield or some other energy barrier? But he clearly wasn't wearing any equipment!
"Cough! This is the unique power of Axis—ki. Be careful, that stuff can be projected externally," Caesar said, swaying as he stood up.
Twenty years had passed, and the gap between their strengths had become as vast as the distance between heaven and earth!
He used to have confidence that he could handle the young Axis once he donned his power armor.
But now, he and a dozen comrades in power armor were being beaten like toys.
Axis waved his hand sharply, and the barrier burst, the backlash of the Legendary Super Saiyan Ki sending the Adeptus Custodes stumbling backward.
Axis surged forward like a phantom, his fists, elbows, knees, and legs turning into a storm of attacks, each strike landing precisely on the weak points of the Adeptus Custodes' armor.
CRACK! The chest plate of one Adeptus Custodes shattered.
BOOM! Another was kicked away, crashing through the adamantium wall of the training room before coming to a stop.
THUD! One was grabbed by the throat by Axis and slammed into the ground.
"Do you yield?" Axis grinned.
The Adeptus Custodes did not answer, merely raising a hand with great difficulty to try and pry his fingers loose.
"Got guts." Axis nodded, then gave a light flick of his hand, tossing the warrior away like a ragdoll.
He hit the ground heavily, completely incapacitated.
The entire training ground fell into a deathly silence.
Sixteen Adeptus Custodes, the most elite warriors of the Imperium of Man, arguably the most perfect humans aside from Emperor and the Primarchs.
Even while wearing power armor and utilizing all their weaponry, they had been completely wiped out in a matter of minutes!
Axis clapped his hands and turned to look at Caesar, the only one still standing on the training ground. With all the others downed, Axis had held back just enough to let Caesar be the only one left on his feet.
"How about that? Brother Caesar, it's been over 20 years, I gave you some face, didn't I?" Axis said with a grin.
"You might as well have come over and knocked me down with one punch," Caesar said with a dark expression.
Damn it, I'd rather go hand-to-hand with Orks, I'd rather fight those wretched xenos, than fight you, you bastard!
And what is the meaning of leaving only me standing?
"You really mean that? Then I'm coming over to knock you down!" Axis said with a smile.
"You! You... forget it, I yield." Caesar dropped his weapon to the ground and spoke.
What kind of monster have Emperor and the Chancellor cultivated?
Malcador, who had been observing the entire battle from the sidelines, looked at the data panel in shock. That kid Axis had only used a protective barrier to defend against the Power Weapon.
He hadn't used any skills like Ki Blast or Ki Sphere at all; relying solely on his physical body, he had knocked down these Adeptus Custodes as if he were playing around, like a child beating up toddlers.
This was no longer a matter of numerical disparity; even if the number of Adeptus Custodes were doubled, the outcome of this battle would not change in the slightest.
Even if there were a hundred times more, Axis should be able to win easily by utilizing his Ki energy, perhaps even annihilating the Ten Thousand Legion single-handedly.
"Axis, you performed well." Malcador walked in, nodded toward Axis, and said.
"Thank you for the praise, Teacher. These Golden Corn are not bad either," Axis replied.
This kid should be able to complete the mission perfectly. The Second Primarch is definitely no match for him, not to mention that Leman Russ is also there.
At this moment, the Adeptus Custodes who had been hammered down by Axis had all climbed back up, tidied their slightly damaged armor, and stood in a row.
The way all the Adeptus Custodes looked at Axis had changed; they were completely won over by his combat prowess.
"There are still ten days left. Do you want these Adeptus Custodes to continue sparring with you?" Malcador asked, looking at Axis.
These were the strongest sparring partners he could find; any stronger, and he would have to look for a Primarch or Emperor himself.
