Background / History

The Broken Mountain Sect is a prominent martial sect in Qingfeng Prefecture. Its credentials carry enough authority to admit Huang Rongyue, Lu Li, and their companions into Qingfeng Prefecture during a period of unrest and refugee congestion. 104

Huang Rongyue intended to bring Lu Li into the sect as her distant relative. However, the recruitment assessment had ended half a month earlier. Deacon Uncle Fu refused to make an exception, publicly rebuffed Huang Rongyue’s attempted bribe, and offered Lu Li only a chore-disciple position: ten years of labor before eligibility for the inner sect. Lu Li declined to join and left for the Evergreen Sect instead. 105 106

Uncle Fu’s handling of Lu Li later became a source of internal punishment. After Lu Li emerged as an exceptional talent, Uncle Fu was demoted to chore disciple for having driven him away. 161

Conflict with Lu Li

Initial humiliation

Lu Li encountered three Broken Mountain Sect disciples harassing a woman and her family. He castrated one disciple, crippled his martial arts, and defeated the other two despite Nie Kun’s warning that provoking the sect could bring consequences. 135

The incident spread through Longwind Prefecture and contributed to Lu Li’s notoriety. The sect’s deacon Shen Yun subsequently joined Incense Fragrance Sect Hall Master Duan Jin in planning Lu Li’s death. 136 137

Retaliation and raid

Lu Li later killed Shen Yun and Duan Jin, then raided Broken Mountain Sect territory with his allies. During the attack, he infiltrated a sect courtyard, killed guards and true disciples, and executed Zhao Jiahao after revealing his identity. 155 156

The sect sent a letter accusing the Evergreen Sect of colluding with the Blood Ghost and demanded a confrontation. Wei Zhantang proposed ending the dispute through concessions of territory and treasures, but Evergreen Sect Master Cang Baihe refused and publicly humiliated him. 161 162

Ambushes and alliance

Following further humiliation of its disciples by Lu Li, the sect planned an ambush using Yan Wenchou, Elder Yang’s disciple, five senior brothers, and Incense Fragrance Sect members. 166

Broken Mountain Sect and Incense Fragrance Sect forces later ambushed Lu Li directly. Although he killed many attackers, he was eventually surrounded and blocked by an eighth-level Post-Heaven martial artist before Black Hawk and Elder Qing intervened. 171

After the operation failed, Incense Fragrance Sect First Elder Qi blamed the Broken Mountain Sect. Wei Zhantang and Elder Qi nearly broke their alliance apart, but agreed to investigate both Lu Li and the Blood Ghost. 178
