Background / History
Madara seized control of the Uchiha clan through strength and political methods, rapidly ending the turmoil of his succession. Within five years, his reforms reduced clan casualties by nearly 30 percent and earned broad support among the Uchiha. He also rebuilt the clan compound, replacing many training grounds with gardens and refined residences as part of a wider transformation of the clan's image and influence. 1
Under his direction, the Uchiha expanded beyond their traditional role as a ninja clan. Their trade, industry, and agriculture came to control major portions of commerce across several great nations, while displaced ninjas were incorporated into the clan's external enterprises. Madara's objective was not merely military supremacy: he sought economic power, public support, cultural influence, and eventually a legitimate basis for hegemony. 1 3 7
Madara pursued a cautious rapprochement with Senju Hashirama after testing his character, strength, and ambitions. Their joint sealing of the Three-Tails convinced Madara that Hashirama was a capable and principled partner; this culminated in a formal two-phase alliance between the Uchiha and Senju clans. 12 13 16 21 22
During his absence while seeking Tailed Beasts, internal betrayal nearly destroyed his position. Uchiha Yan betrayed him, and Izuna was fatally wounded while protecting him. Madara killed Yan, resisted Matatabi's attempt to drive him into hatred, and immediately turned his attention to preserving the clan's secret vault and surviving infrastructure. 5 6
Appearance
Madara is an exceptionally handsome Uchiha with a composed, aristocratic presence. He favors elaborate, costly clothing and accessories rather than conventional shinobi attire. 14 18
- Long black hair, usually tied with silk or an ornate hairpin. 18 32
- Black eyes that become blood-red when his Sharingan is activated. 6
- Often wears deep-blue brocade and mist-gauze formal robes; his formal appearance can visibly reduce others' hostility. 18
- Possesses a refined personal style, including embroidered garments, hidden patterns, and strict standards for food and furnishings. 14
- Wears red armor over a deep-blue ninja uniform when training or preparing for combat. 32
Personality
Madara is patient, rational, highly competitive, and relentlessly ambitious. He prefers to shape events through influence, economic pressure, intelligence, and manipulation rather than open force, considering personal killing a low-grade means reserved for necessary circumstances. 2 7 30
His polished demeanor conceals a cold and authoritarian leader. He demands absolute obedience from the elders, permits advice and questions, but rejects opposition or unsanctioned action. Betrayal, incompetence, and threats to his authority are met with decisive punishment. 6 11 20
Despite his severity, Madara values capable subordinates, protects clan members when possible, and shows gentleness toward animals. He rescued and fed a squirrel, keeps Matatabi close despite refusing a formal contract, and values Hashirama's integrity over mere strength. 5 12 13 19
